Clever guy, liked him more recently on Would I Lie To You. One of those who seems to have been around for ever. Which to a whippersnapper like me, he has. RIP
Extremely talented comedy writer, sad news he seemed a very nice fella when he appeared on various panel shows.
i went to see him about four years ago at the fringe by the sea. very funny guy, extremely sharp and witty despite been well in to his 80’s.
Very sad news indeed. I use to love listening to his stories and his ability to write for so many comedy greats will never be repeated. RIP Barry
Very sad indeed. Great series of Hamish and Dougal, You'll have had your tea. Loved him on ISIHAC, that infectious laughter behind the other characters. I think that only leaves Graham Garden from the original cast .....
I listen to the old episodes regularly on YouTube. Keeps me going through the mundane working day. Humph, Barry, Tim Brooke-Taylor and Willie Rushton all gone from the original line-up. Sad times.
He was a very funny man. The BBC obit. has his favourite joke: A man is driving down a country road when he knocks down and kills a cockerel. He sees the farm house so he takes the stricken bird and knocks on the door. When the farmer answers the door he says "I am very sorry I have killed your cockerel and I would like to replace him." to which the farmer replies. " That is very good of you, the hens are round the back."
Sad news, one of the comedy greats and as others have said seemed to be a really decent guy. He will be missed.
There is a tribute to Barry Cryer on Radio 4 now. It is very funny. You can get it from 7 pm tonight on BBC Sounds. I'll give you a taster of his jokes: "Knock Knock" "Who's there? "Grandad" "Stop the funeral!"
