The statement reminds me of the Fawlty Towers episode Waldorf Salad. Basil comes out of the kitchen and reads out a written apology to the diner, which he pretends is from the chef.
As takeovers go this would be in the ‘very strange’ approach category. The issue is that it is Chien/Conway/Parekh/Cryne and Hung who all to a greater or lesser extent own the club. First of all they have to want to sell and secondly they can name their price. As I look at the financials of the club I can’t see how anybody would place a value on it close to what they paid. Unless there is a charitable person who has the love of the club and a spare few million I struggle to see how anyone would pay anything like the millions quoted. Final thought - wasn’t it Elon Musk who tweeted ‘funding secured’
I can't see why people are convinced by this - why would a facebook group be used to communicate about a potential takeover? Imagine PIF had announced they wanted to buy Newcastle by putting a post up on Bebo. It's just as ridiculous as this. Happy to be wrong if if it ends up being real, but I'd also be concerned about the new owners if this is how they operate.
The first things any series buyer would do is establish a company, hire a lawyer and when engaging with the club an NDA would be first thing on the agenda. I see no evidence of any of this in fact the opposite. However as I said I will as usual keep an open mind.
The bottom line with this is that there MAY be something in this group and the facebook front. However, it also MAY be total bulls.hit. If its genuine it would be nice to know what actual steps have and are been taken - some facts and figures please. If its bulls.hit the mind boggles as to why someone would spend time developing a theme of takeover in the first place - has someone got boredom/wind-up syndrome?
As much as I’d like a viable consortium to take over imo this Isn’t t the way to go about it . Firstly to congregate under a heading such as the face book campaign doesn’t inform me this is a serious takeover more like a disillusioned fans reaction. Not that I’m itself is wrong is are well entitled to voice that headline etc but imo doesn’t say to me viable takeover or even constructive criticism . The fact some posters have been blocked for asking certain questions about the group and the consortium issuing statements of conflict against the people they need to civilly negotiate with doesn’t fill me with confidence or expectation personally . What I think we need is either a clear the air and reset of the current owners with actions put in place so that the disastrous decisions and purchases can’t happen again or a proper verifiable consortium owner to come forward with a plan we can all unite behind . Protest via Facebook etc are ok to get a point across although I wouldn’t subscribe to what imo isn’t constructive protesting and we need a united front st this stage .
If there are genuine wealthy benefactors behind this absurdity, why would said benefactors not just contact the owners and begin negotiations to buy the club? Why would anyone need to start a Facebook Group first?
In a nutshell this says "we have some money, we want to buy the club, we've had no conversations with the owners regarding this so have no idea of the cost/feasibility." So, as of now, it's nothing more than an anonymous expression of interest, which would probably be better being made directly to the club, at which point the owners will quote a stupid selling price which disregards the current true valuation of the club's assets. The FB group appears to be acting independently of this, or at least was set up to do so. Good luck to anyone wanting to engage in serious negotiations to buy the club, but I don't see this succeeding currently, unless they're willing to pay way over the odds, as this is what I expect the owners' current position to be.
I'm mystified as to why you would want a "meeting" with a group of people who you and the OFST, plus members of this group have been running down since the group was first mentioned. According to the BBS and Mr Gallagher the CO group are 'sillies" and it's a "hoax". If you really wanted to collaborate you'd have made an effort to temper some of the dialogue and remain open minded. I find it appalling that a group of fans from the same club, who feel strongly about the way the club is currently being run are denigrated with personal attacks by the 30 odd or so people who can be bothered to post on here. It's very sad.
Do you know what I'm mystified about? Someone coming out of the woodwork to post this without recognising what might have been said, or happened, previously. Your post mentions nothing of fake personas online that were incorrectly linking the group to a successful business owner in Barnsley. Nor does it reflect that BFCST actively sought a meeting to make this a collaborative effort. I think you'll find that whilst some posts have strong opinions around the issues with the way the 'consortium' are going about this 'deal', nothing has been personally directed at any individual. In the meantime I've personally been called most names under the sun, with the personal favourites being 'bell end' and the quickly deleted post on Twitter. There's unanimous support for different forms of protest, frustration, or anger being shown towards the owners. Nobody has questioned that. Just the method of a Facebook group that was formed under a cloud and continues to contradict itself at every turn. It's completely fair for supporters to question the Trust, as is their right, and it's also fair of them to ask more about this mystery ownership group.
Keeping an open mind on this. It did state that they did not instigate the creation of that fbook group, so in part it was distancing from that side of things. Then there is a line of thinking in my mind that because of Conways comments about if they weren't wanted then they would leave, maybe the thinking is that building an even more toxic relationship with the fans and the current board will actually keep the price down. A moderately happy owner will probably ask more and hold out on a sale than someone getting 24/7 dogs abuse. Not a nice way to do, but it's just a thought that's all. I don't think in reality though that there are a queue of people wanting to buy out the current board, especially with the stadium issues in the public domain etc.
