Just curious to see the numbers on this. I personally would have him back in a heartbeat. But think there is a few that’s not into the idea.
Val's got more commitment and tactical nous in his little finger than the last 3 put together. He doesn't take any sh.it from anyone and demands 100%, because he gives 100% himself. We wouldn't be anywhere near the bottom half with Val here. Get him back
Can the decent percentage of posters voting "no" please give their reasoning? You wouldn't want us to take back the manager who guided us to one of our best ever second tier seasons, with broadly the same group of players, whilst we're on course for the lowest points total the championship has ever seen? Really?
I was just about to post similar. People are more than entitled to their vote/opinion, would be nice to hear their reasoning behind it
It's pointless as there isn't a snowball chance in hell of him coming back. Our owners wouldn't finance it and I doubt he'd even want the job anyway. We're stuck with Asbaghi for the forseeable......sadly.
I think Beth should show Conway the results of this poll and if action isn’t taken then we should all take water balloons to the next time he’s actually here in person and pelt him wi em.
1. It's not going to happen. His next move will be at a level we couldn't afford anyway. We'd also have to pay compensation to get rid of Asbaghi and his coaches. We're not very flush. 2. I've never disliked a style of football as much as Ismaels. To the point that it negated any joy of the game for me. Thats some feat to say we finished 5th and were edged out of the playoffs. I've never had that loathing of a style before. You could debate whether he'd have the respect of players as he walked out on them and decimated our ability to analyse and simply get fit, whether he could have the same impact without Woodrow, Mowatt and Dike and just 3 substitutes or could he orchestrate players as much from the touchline with fans back in. However bad we get, I can't ever see a day where I'd welcome Ismaels version of football.
I selected no, not because of any of the above, in fact despite that. I picked no based on the assumption that once the £2m was matched he chose to leave. If it came out he was told like players often do he had to leave, I’d want to change to a yes. Might be no logic or sense in it but that’s why.
Much as I loved what we achieved under Val, I've voted no because if he improved our fortunes (and I think he would) we were never anything other than a stepping stone for him and he'd be off again as soon as another club were interested. I want some of his qualities but not him. And btw, Asbaghi would go at the first opportunity too although I doubt he's going to get any interest any time soon!
The outcomes and results are worse, absolutely. The football is at least trying to be football. Its poorly set up and executed, but there are attempts to find a red shirt, even if its not often successful.
It's this I can't understand. We're on course for our worst ever season. In our history of 135 years we haven't had a worse season, ever. It's this season's football that is awful. Winning football matches has become secondary, as stated by the board and CEO. The result is that we're watching the worst Championship team in the worst Championship for many a season. I know you're going to reply, but don't bother. I don't want to hear it. Furthermore, I don't want to watch this sub-standard football that we're being subjected to this season. I've been going for 43 years, and I've probably missed about 20 home games in that time. I've seen about 1000 games at Oakwell, and probably watched 10 times more than that on TV. This is the worst football I've ever seen. This lot is testing my patience big time. I'm so close to chalking FC.UK on it all and not going next season. This is what they've done to me and other loyal fans. Give me Val's winning mentality and winning football any day of the week.
I just don't subscribe to win at any costs, in any aspect of life, least of all in things which are supposed to be about entertainment This season has been garbage beyond belief on so many levels. For me last season was garbage, but results were good. If you combined the results of this season with the style of last, you'd have the worst thing imaginable on a football pitch. I really don't want to give that the tiniest chance of happening. As I said last season, everyone is entitled to their opinions and takes value and enjoyment from different aspects of football.
Some people like the music of Adele, some people pay money to see Sarah Millican "perform" "comedy", some people thought lockdown was a beneficial public health policy. People are f*cking weird.
I voted No because I do not think even the sugar plum fairy with the world's biggest magic wand could turn this around. IMO Val got lucky with empty stadiums, 5 subs, and low expectations from fans, coupled with the signing of Dike, and the good form of a class player in Mowatt. This year he would have none of that, and aimless lump it and chase just wouldn't work with the players we now have. We pressed and surprised teams certainly, and got results, but it became clear to me that other teams were beginning to work out how to counter this. Also, my opinion again but I think Val would fail if he came back. He preached energy, drive, commitment, loyalty to the cause etc, yet jumped ship at the very first opportunity and took good people with him. I've followed the team for 53 years and have seen far worse than this. Football is cyclic and we will rise again, as we always have, though it might be a bit of a wait this time. Val is not the answer
Any successful manager we have will leave, they always have and will go even more quickly now that the owners realise that they can get £2m a pop for them. We’ve made more money on trading managers in the last 18 months than we have players.
1. Totally agree. However, the poll question was simply "would you have Val back tomorrow", and I took that to mean regardless of how unrealistic. 2. True, it wasn't pretty. But for me, I would've given anything to be able to attend some games last season. 90 minutes of fairly drab but effective football and some goals to celebrate >>>>>>>> pretty triangles with no end product compounded by stupid mistakes and a loss....nearly every week. Oh, and 2 wins in a season. 2.
