I hope he plays well and we win, what’s wrong with a bit of debate? No doubt Walton would have got rightful criticism for his Barrow performance but why is it Collins can’t?
Come on man,it was windy the lads done 100 plus of those clearances running out of his box in last season and half
I'd play Walton in the cup. He played in the last round so I'd be consistent and give him a little bit of game time while we're still in it.
You are right , you have to keep Walton sharp for in case Collins gets an injury or covid plus I do not understand why Walton is getting all the stick about the Barrow performance , yes he made some errors but the defending in front of him was bordering on pure comedy but its all Walton fault , unbelievable .
I have seen Manuel Neuer, regarded by some as the world's best keeper, make more than one similar mistake.
I genuinely don’t. Not saying he’s poor. But definitely not premiership standard. We’ve had several far superior goalies in my time that did/could have, reached that standard. And he’s not a match for those. Both him and Walton are par championship at best. They both have different attributes. But don’t have that complete all round game.
Anybody see him walk straight up the tunnel tonight and not get any nvolved in the end of match stuff
He hasn't been up to his usual standards for a while but he's still been a very competent keeper. The biggest issue is we have decided he has to play in a way that doesn't suit him. Play to his strengths like val did and he is excellent. I blame the tactics not the player
Comparisons with premiership standard goalkeepers are unfair as Collins does not have a Premiership standard defence in front of him. Simply put, the more defensive errors from the outfield creating more goalscoring opportunities for the opposition creates an obvious correlation in the potential for a goalkeeping error or misjudgement resulting in a goal. As someone said, midfielder or attacker make errors/misjudgements throughout a match which does not automatically lead to conceding. However, the defensive unit or individual making an error is more likely to lead to the team conceding. Crucially, a serious error/misjudgement from a goalkeeper, as the last line of defence, is most likely to result in a goal. From what I have read, over teh season, Collins has saved us from embarrassing scorelines on more than one occasion. Losing by a single goal and failing to keep a clean sheet looks worse only because the usual scoreline involves 'Barnsley nil'. The inability to score goals also puts more pressure on a goalkeeper since he goes out knowing there is additional pressure to keep a clean sheet to get even a single point. I don't even know why Collins vs Walton is a topic for debate as there are far more serious issues to consider long before we start talking goalkeepers. Off topic, whilst the behaviour of a minority of cretins (e.g vandalising our own stadium, assaulting loyal valued employees) warrants comments and condemnation , I find the numbers and length of posts arising from disagreements between two factions (ST and Conway out) thoroughly depressing as it descends into infighting with allegations and counter allegations creating divisiveness at a time when we should ALL be focussed on how to address the cancer that is destroying the club from within. i.e. the current owners' strategies. Obviously there needs to be valid discussion and debate regarding how to achieve that common aim but accusations and attributing criminal actions to either faction without evidence or proof deflects away from the main argument.
Tbf I wouldn't begrudge him that, he's done his bit this season and Walton can cope in league 1. Hope he doesn't juat become a championship benchwarmer like Davies though, he's too good a keeper for that.
Maybe he wanted to be off in January but The Board wanted more than a prospective buyer were prepared to pay?
