That would seem like a huge oversight on the part of the EFL if they managed to procure the club in that manner. So yeah, it's likely
I wasn't disputing that though mate? We all know it goes significantly down. Hence me saying really rough maths had us 7th/8th in terms of budget for next season.
I know @Loko the Tyke but I think the idea that costs can be cut with the current playing staff remaining and not needing further capital is at best very optimistic. In reality it would be financial alchemy.
I think its more that you don't have to abide by the league 1 pay structure for the players you already had in the championship when you go down to league 1
Helik, Styles and Woodrow will almost certainly be sold. Question is, how much will those sales bring in and what difference it will make to the wage bill. Wouldn’t surprise me to see Kane sold and the hope will be Oulare will stay at Molenbeek, possibly with their wage contribution increasing for the second and third six month stints. Collins is also likely to be sold. The hope is we can keep Andersen and Morris, bring some experience in, probably league 2/non-league experience to go alongside Kitching, Moon, Wolfe, Ackroyd and Marsh.
wont have to worry about wages as the likes of Helik,Morris,Brittain,Styles and Collins will have all moved on and the bairns that are left will all be on low wages anyway apart from the new firing blanks strikers are on
Almost every team that gets relegated sells their better players. It wouldn't be an ownership/Barnsley only issue if 4/5 players moved on. Happens across most divisions, but obviously last time we had funds on the balance sheet to allow us to keep a better nucleus of squad together - which in turn meant we only really signed Dougall and Woodrow. I just see the turnover of playing staff being greater this time, but that in turn is an opportunity to nail the recruitment better than we have done in the last nine months. Or to rinse and repeat mistakes made and have a poor season in League One. I'm optimistic we could do the former, but it's by no means a guarantee in the same way this insistence we're about to drop out of the leagues is a guarantee.
All pie in the sky thinking. They might stay. We had Woodrow last time in Lg1 for instance.. for me, Helik and Morris are the 2 key players for me to retain. But people are presuming that the owners won't plug that gap for at least a season. There is a difference between balancing the books vs ploughing additional money into the club bringing in new players and adding to the wage bill. Time will tell.
There will be additions as there have been in more leaner times. Of course there will be a balance to be made, but because I don’t necessarily see that process as all doom and gloom it doesn’t mean to say I’m not being a realist either. Having a clear- out is certainly not being a realist in my book neither
We haven’t actually ‘always’ relied on player trading. There has been the odd period where we’ve actually been buyers rather than sellers. Very, very few. But still…
