totally with you in terms of drawing the line at personal abuse etc. but as fans I think we're perfectly entitled to comment on performance. part and parcel of being a fan, for me. I doubt even the players themselves would disagree with that.

if you paid £15 to watch a film and thought it was $hit, I reckon you would think you were entitled to say that, without fear of upsetting the actors.

I don't think I'm personally making josh benson out to be a scapegoat. I just think his performances have been $hit. if/when he plays well, I'll be the first to say so. I just haven't seen it yet.

Agreed. He gets caught in possession, because he often doesn't seem to be aware of what's around him. Central midfield is the hardest position on the pitch. You need 360 degree vision to play there. Mowatt was always aware of what was going on around him and was rarely caught in possession. If he was, he was strong enough to hold onto the ball.

I still maintain that he's not fully fit or fully recovered from whatever injury or illness he had.

I thought the first 6/8 games he was very good, he could pass and move quickly, and he had the vision (pass to Sibbick for the Cardiff goal).

But since his absence, he's half the player from the autumn. Has Covid affected him more than the others? Or has a few injuries knocked his confidence.

    I think there's a player in there.

Oh and for anyone to suggest that we aren't allowed to criticise players is really weird.

I agree, we said the same about Bensons performance, some posts though on this thread and other similar ones go much further and too far. Players don't get this far in their careers if they are rubbish, they don't play poorly on purpose so to me it's a confidence thing and that's improved by playing games and encouragement.

There might be a player in there and he’s only young but he has looked way out of his depth this season. He needs a rest. His set piece delivery is poor considering he’s supposed to be an expert in this area. I have no idea why we signed him when he looks no better than Herbie Kane.

Difficult to say how many are league 1/2 standard vs being made to look that way at a club that had an absolutely shambolic summer, losing its back room staff and hiring a very poor coach.

I think Benson has some ability, but his season has fallen off a cliff since he was out with covid. He might’ve been ready for the Championship in a backup / sub role. But bringing him in and expecting him to replace the captain after playing less than 20 first team games was just asking for trouble, and that’s the clubs fault, not his.

He was always going to need time to settle in and develop, we just haven’t given anybody the right environment to develop in this year.

I really liked him in the first month of the season before he got Covid & then an injury.

I doubt it’s long terms effects of Covid I think he’s just short of confidence. Hopefully it’ll come but if Brittain was available he’d be dropping to the bench & I’d be moving Styles inside.

I like Styles and Britrain wide, worked well last season. I think Benson is getting pelters at the moment but tbf to the lad he doesn't hide and with hard work the reward will come.

I'm not sure Styles in centre mid has been much more effective to be honest. I'd just stick with a winning side next week.

It hasn’t but I think he’d be more effective than Benson & Brittain would be more effective than Styles at RWB

If that means giving him stick from the sidelines, it's just what a player low on confidence needs

Some of the games styles has played in the center this season he has been poor. Blackpool away was one went missing better as a wing back for me.

Why not illustrate one that has gone too far.

I can see little in this thread that has done that. Is he not good enough to play in the Championship? Well yes. He is the worst performer in a team that has won 3 games this season. Get a grip.

I also thought he showed signs of promise in the early part of the season.

He, more than any other player, seems to have been affected by catching Covid, as he's not looked like the same player since returning from this absence and I recall some comments at the time along the lines of it taking him a while to shake off the effects.

He had the best pedigree of any of our incoming players in the summer so I'm not giving up on him yet.

Yeah that was my point really maybe abit harsh saying league 1/2 but we have blooded too many players especially in central midfield.
Benson- most appearances before this season cam at grimsby on loan. Burnley fans warned he wouldnt be ready for the championship.
    Gomes- man city youngster
Palmer- looked good at the side of mowatt when we played more direct struggled most of the season.
Styles- great at wing back last season but hardly played central midfield in championship before this season and when he has been poor.

Some of these players will come good but too much too soon although gomes has looked good to me recently.

I agree. Just prefer Styles in the middle to Benson or Palmer at the minute & it also means Brittain & Vita can both start

If our midfield eventually gets it together this season then my prediction is that it is Gomes who takes charge of affairs, really think he could do well from now on, he’s starting to show his worth
