MK Dons 1 Reds 3 - FA Cup 5th Round: Good away day following that day. I liked Chris Dagnall. He was a real trier. I think he had a purple patch for a few games prior to and including this one, seem to remember he scored both when we beat Leeds 2-0 a few weeks earlier and which started off a good run of form under Flitcroft after Keith Hill had been sacked.
Great day out, went with Courthouse Reds and stopped off in Northampton en- route. Really impressed with ground and how the concourse was open-plan.
Marlon Harewood and Jason Scotland. Were they any good? By that age, not great. But they had the best song and the experience they had made up for so much. Still struggle to understand why experience is so undervalued by our owners. Alongside younger players it makes them look better and ultimately attract much bigger offers from other clubs.
It was an easy drive up the road for me that day, from Princes Risborough. Loved the setup there but I couldn't help wondering why they had built such a big ground for a new team that, to be honest, are unlikely to merit that size of stadium. Comfortable seats, plenty of legroom and we filled the away end, with plenty more spilling around the sides. It was a typical, old-fashioned FA Cup tie with the right result at the end, some terrific goals and the pantomime villain Alan Smith getting himself sent off at the end. If only all away days could be like that
The song for them started in the next round dint it when we went to Man City away. We started it in the pubs before the match then it stuck
A great day out, can't believe that it's 9 years ago now. Not sure whose coach we went on but pretty sure we stopped for a couple of hours In Towcester.
The legacy of Don Rowing. 8,000 STHs, 6,000 tickets off Liverpool, allowing each STH two tickets per ST.
Had a massive argument with a friend at that game. Our group of 4 season ticket holders sent him to get our tickets. We turned up on the day to find he had bought one for a work friend of his who was a Liverpool "fan" After the consumption of much alcohol and this "fan" saying this was his first trip to Anfield I lost my rag with both of them.
Back in the days of queuing. I got some after 4pm after queuing about 8 hours and it was on to the last few as my seat in the ground was past the corner flag and not even facing the pitch.
Didn't get a Liverpool ticket. Am I still annoyed? Well, actually, if I'm honest, not really, the beam back at Oakwell, while not the same, is a great memory. Of course I would have preferred to be there, I'm not not claiming what I did was as good, but it was different and therefore memorable. I experienced a pitch invasion when there wasn't even a match. If you were the guy who did the aeroplane around the big screen, thank you, you make me smile every time I think of it. I was bloody annoyed at the time though. If I ever see Don Rowing I'll, I'll... ask him about his well being and wish him a good day probably.
The crazy thing is, when you compare that team individually with our team now, on paper at least, especially including last season, you think player for player how better we have now. Wiseman, Kennedy, Etuhu, Perkins, Dagnall, Mellis... And yet our position and in particular our points total... It's mental. Further shows how much experience can help I suppose?
