One of my sons was due to fly out of Heathrow this morning but obviously it has been cancelled & put back 24 hrs , disappointing for him but very sensible , I hate flying at the best of time but on a day like today you would not get me on a plane for a gold pig .
A lot have seemed to do a dummy run... Come in first time round had a good look and a feel for the conditions... Then landed second time around.. fantastic standard of piloting..
I've got to say, I really miss flying, though I'm now more mindful of the impact of having doing a lot of it pre pandemic. But just being thousands of feet up, looking at clear starry skies as everyone else slept, or looking down on mountain ranges and descending into new lands for the first time. I miss it very much.
i was once on a short internal flight Glasgow to Leeds. Pilot flew over leeds at 1000 foot and said cross winds were too high to land, diverted to Manchester. Did the same at Manchester and then at Doncaster. Final divert was to Teeside when he announced we would be landing as we had minimal fuel remaining. I can say without any question the scariest landing I’ve ever had. I fly with work at least a couple of times a week (in normal times) and that 2 hour flight was by far the worst thing i’ve ever experienced in the air. You know people are scared when it’s a combination of screams and laughs on what is normally a silent commuter flight.
I had a return flight from New York back in 2003 and it was surreal. It was a borderline cross of final destination meets Leslie Nielsens Airplane. Something in the region of 20-30 extremely traditional jewish people in full garb came aboard and sat together. The plane started to move and the lights went out, the pilot had somehow stalled it. The plane started up again and moved a bit further. The lights went out again, he'd stalled it again. A woman screamed at the top of her voice, oh my god, we're all going to die!!! The plane taxied and made it close to the runway, everyone on edge. And they suddenly decided to de-ice the plane, given it was late at night and freezing cold, you'd have thought they may have done this sooner... but the plane sat there waiting for a de-icing crew to come along. Around half an hour passed til a crew turned up and they finished. The pilot came on air and apologised for the delay but we'd be getting underway soon. At that point, the Jewish contingent started to pray....
I landed there yesterday. The weather is gorgeous and the wife and I are having the most relaxing time drinking all inclusive beer since 10:30 this morning! Nothing to do with flight radar really, I’m just having a mini brag!
Never had any like that but landing here is a bit nervewracking as you look like you're going into the sea until the very last seconds...
Noticed a Ryanair 737-8max flying from Seattle to Dublin a couple of days back, the Distance from Seattle to Dublin far exceeds the 737's range.
Oh I don't mind that too much. I can't recall if it was Langkawi that was a little similar coming low right in over the sea. Keeps it interesting!
Its a beautiful country to visit and once you've done it or aware what its like, its not as worrying!
It does but that will be a ferry flight from Boeing. They can manage it being totally empty apart from fuel.
Unfortunately I’ve been on two flights in the last few months when this as happened Although probably nothing out of the ordinary for the pilot’s , it was very scary for us passengers lol
Our neighbours flying into Leeds this evening, would r be surprised if it’s diverted it’s windy there even when it’s not windy!!
I love pointing flight radar at planes going over the house, last week there was a weird looking plane, logged it in FR and it was a Russian Tupolev under an Israeli carrier flying from Cyprus to Iceland- it left me with more questions then answers that one!
