I booked a ski Holiday for next month - mindful of covid despite it being finished here! ahem, We picked a resort which you can avoid enclosed lifts Vallandry (Part of the Les Arcs ski area) is almost all chair lifts with just a couple of enclosed cabins and one cable car which are avoidable if its busy. The place we are staying has a ski down to the main Vallandary chair lift so we could ski the whole week and never get in an enclosed lift should we chose to avoid the top of the highest part of les Arcs which requires a cable car. or so we thought..... it turns out they have just upgraded the lift we have to use first thing to a flashy new gondola lift - luxury 10 seater. Normally we would be delighted as it will almost certainly remove the queues you had for that lift in the mornings but now we will be forced to share a small cabin with 10 people for 6 mins at least once per day ( longer if there are any problems and it stops ) The best laid plans here is a video of the new lift if anyone is interested
Six mins should be fine in terms of infections unless you’re really unlucky and someone coughs or sneezes in your face. In that timeframe particles shouldn’t have built up to a dangerous amount and if it opens up every 6 mins for loading and unloading the air should be fresh. How are you travelling there? Have fun!
Driving going through the tunnel but that should be fairly safe as we can stay in the car though will probably get out to stretch though I think that should be safe enough It should be fine on the gondola anyway as it will have opening windows so when its moving it should have decent airflow I just thought it was quite ironic after we picked the resort with covid safety in mind We will still need to go out to eat of course so it cant be entirely risk free Disappointlingly the company we used the last few times we went to the area was in the next village of Peisey and that still has the chairlift anyway and we would have gone there this time but they went bust last year. Haha its not finished in France yet though as they dont have our wonderful Tory party in control of the covid response
We're heading for Europe in early April in our motorhome, Daisy. The plan at the moment is; Harwich to Roterdam ferry then a couple of days in Amsterdam followed by Bruges (for the beer oh and architecture or summat) Paris Bordeaux Burgos Madrid Seville Cadiz Gibraltar Lanjaron (to see my sister) Barcelona The French Riviera to Monaco Florence Berne Berlin Hamburg And anywhere else we can fit in before the end of June....
I'm currently in Austria and I know what you mean. Here, mask wearing on lifts (chair lifts, gondolas, all types) is compulsory, and if someone "forgets" they will soon get reminded by the staff. Also, windows in enclosed lifts have been permanently fixed in the open position. It's not perfect but it's the best they can do. To be honest I believe a far greater risk is in the evenings in bars and restaurants etc. Much more enclosed and reduced mask wearing.
My heart bleeds for you, of course everyone on here has knowledge of ski lifts in that area, or perhaps you could actually check out the restrictions imposed currently in that area on a thing called, erm I I think, it’s the, erm internet…
Im somewhat confused by your post I wasnt asking anyone for information - I have it from err the internet It was a light hearted post on one of the lesser problems caused by covid in view of the fact that "official" though batsh1t crazy line is that covid is finished here now
I couldn't comment about ski lifts. I've had plenty of their yoghurts. I wouldn't want to go off-piste.
To be fair the lifts were insanely slow in Les Arcs, so the upgrade was very overdue. Will make for a better week!!
