I agree, but I had him winning by more than 5 points. Listening to all these pros, promoters, pundits all think it’s a disgrace
Taylor got knocked down and a point taken away for that after bell and got dominated throughout terrible descision.
Catterall by one round is perfectly fair as it could be seen as close. Might not be how you saw it, but we’ve had worse decisions than a one point win go in favour of our own fighters and seen less outrage. Rounds 1-3 / Catterall up 2-1 Rounds 4-8 / Catterall up 4-1 plus a knockdown Rounds 9-12 / Taylor 4-0 Knockdown seals it but the card that was 114-111 in Josh Taylor’s favour was obscene. CJ Ross territory there. Scotland is worse than England for decisions. See Ricky Burns against Beltran was a million times worse than this one and Sky didn’t get as offended.
Catterall didn’t dominate the last four rounds. He coasted when he didn’t need to. Catterall had a point off too don’t forget
Yeah i know mate but 1st half of fight was all catterall he was robbed there even taylor knew he didnt win that.
the thing with the Burns fight is I had a feeling it would go that way. But this one I couldn’t see any reason at all it would not be a Catterall win. Scotland is clearly a no go area for any non Scottish boxer.
I’ve suggested 6-2 for those same rounds so we’re not a million miles apart. That’s kind of my point.
Well there's your scoring and there's the judges scoring and then there's the statistics. Have a look at the statistics, as far as shots landed are concerned. It needs to become VAR, does boxing. To stop judges (or anyone else) generating or justifying perverse results.
Wow-cheating, only way to describe that decision. Boxing lost tonight- completely ruins its credibility - 85 shots to 166, a knock down and Taylor wins? A disgrace. I’m only a casual box fan and It just puts me right off it.
I was responding to a post that mentioned Taylor’s point deduction mate. Hence saying ‘point off too’.
Punches landed don’t ever show the true reflection of a fight so you can never go on stats to score. It isn’t the Olympics remember. One round went to Taylor as he was the aggressor and on the front foot the most, but five quick jabs in the last 20 seconds from Jack put him up on punches landed. Regardless anyway. I’m in agreement with everyone Josh Taylor lost. I’m just maybe not as gobsmacked as some as I was watching live scorecards from US counterparts at the same time and they had it a lot closer than Sky Sports so knew it was going to be split. Even Steve Bunce said ‘get ready for some crazy scorecards’ because of how scrappy it was and how little real action the fight had outside of two or three rounds.
I can imagine why Bunce said ‘get ready for some crazy scorecards’ Catterall was given a boxing lesson tonight. The lesson was - no matter how good you are you're still going to lose, 'cos the champion you're boxing is at home.
I had Catterall by three rounds. It was a really **** fight though. So it's one of those where the odd round could go either way. But I could watch that fight 100 times (no thanks, once was enough) and still give it Jack every time. Absolute stinker. And does nothing good for boxing. Especially on Sky with so many eyes on it. Immediate rematch in Manchester should be the outcome.
Burns was destroyed in that fight. Broken jaw, hardly throwing back, knocked down. Beltran was completely robbed. Jack definitely didn’t deserve to lose, but maybe not as obvious as the outrage. I struggle with anyone not giving Taylor the last four rounds plus the second round. Also had him winning a dull 7th round as well. That makes it 6-6 and the knockdown swings it.
Jabs are scoring shots, Taylor was walking forward and not landing much, Catterall was out jabbing him and landing crisper shots, Catterall did a mayweather to Taylor and got robbed for it how anyone can think Taylor won that needs there head shaking.
I gave Jack the 11th, based on the point off. It was a really bad fight though. Ignoring the terrible scoring. It was like two European level fighters about halfway up a PPV undercard. Taylor is an undisputed champion and looked garbage. I don't rate Catterall either. Bad night for boxing, in terms of standards and scoring. Bring on Fury in two months time.
Because he’s been around long enough to know that scrappy fights, in front of a ferocious crowd like that, with so very few punches landed in most rounds, can cause scorecards to go in different directions. If you’ve ever watched a fight with no commentary you’ll know what I mean. I’m a big fan of moving to five judges and having two watching on TV with no commentary. Shouldn’t have to, but with more scoring it you’ll wipe out the random card like the 114-11 in favour of Taylor.
Ignored the points deductions as they got one each and try not to score rounds 10-10 if I can avoid it (or if I’m making a case for my favourite fighter!)
