struggle on… I didn’t give him 4 of the last round. I think he took the majority of em, but I also think there was enough gamesmanship to make it difficult to have any emphatic one side or the other. Having said all that, if he did win all 4 I wouldn’t have expected it to win the fight unless they count treble;-)

What’s funny about this is you’re not ending up with a different result to me. I had Taylor losing don’t forget :)

I know. To make it even funnier we are all detailing the technicalities of points, rounds won, performances and claiming details of the fight when clearly this isn’t why the fight was given to Taylor.

You could get 20/1 on Taylor getting the decision at the end on the exchanges, tells you everything you need to know.

If your posts continue to contain a justification for that result tonight , then I wonder about your judgement in general.

That result of that fight was to me a sporting travesty.

    No
No you said Taylor won a round because he was the aggressor but he wasn't landing, The boxer that lands cleaner crisper shots wins the round, that was Catterall

Not sure on that. As mentioned, the US had it a lot closer throughout the fight and Andre Ward - who is the best voice in boxing for me - had Taylor winning by one.

Not in professional boxing? If you jab me ten times on the back foot, but I come forward and land 3/4 power punches and look to be the aggressor, then it will go down to judge’s interpretation.

Some judges don’t like back foot fighting with little action. Punches landed doesn’t win you a round otherwise we wouldn’t need judges and could just go off compu-box, right?

yes but in case you didn’t know the fight was in Scotland. A nation who seem to have overtaken the US on biased boxing decisions. Also there are many other pros what have the same view as I do. I would expect Andre’s stock has fallen somewhat if he thinks Taylor won that fight. By the way I know you know it was in Scotia. ;-)

I’m absolutely fine on my judgement when it comes to boxing and in general. Thanks for the concern though.

It isn’t trying to justify it by the way. It’s just explaining there’s other views out there that make the fight a lot closer than the five round gap suggested by some. You can disagree with those, which I do as well, but just not as passionately. I’ve seen worse decisions than tonight - Canelo vs. Mayweather for one and Fury vs. McDermott as another (adding to Burns/Beltran). That’s without thinking, but it doesn’t justify it.

Have you seen my post above where I mention the fight is in Scotland? That’s how Burns vs. Beltran started.

I think Andre Ward’s stock will be fine. I’d have been interested to see Sky Sports’ reaction had Josh Taylor been a ‘home’ fighter in terms of TV contracts - would guess their stance would be a lot softer.

Im not talking compubox just the fight, Taylor was walking forward but not landing, it was not effective aggression it was just walking forward, Catterall was landing crisper shots and slipping and countering.

Well you might think that things might have moved on since 1975 when John H Stracey said that he knew he had to knock out Jose Napoles in Mexico to bring back the title.

    Which he did.

You might also think that a domestic fight for a world title might be above boxing's usual shenanigans, when the winner is so blindingly obvious.

    But no.

    Knockout still required.

Apologists for existing system still around.

Comments like this have never left boxing. It’s what fighters say regularly about the UK when coming to take on the champion.

Neither fighter was landing much though. Hardly any rounds with double digit punches landed. One of the worst undisputed fights I’ve ever seen and bad scoring to go with it.

Yeah and tonight it proved to be true, which removes the element of sport and damns boxing as a respectable spectacle (odd last two words put together there.)

But you've still got to score the round, and the one doing the effective work was Catterall, much better punch selection and defense

Depends on the round you’re referencing. I’ve already said which rounds I gave to Taylor and why I had the fight 6-6.

Just sat in my hotel room in Glasgow. Ringside seats and that was an absolute travesty.

Went supporting Josh but Jack out boxed, hit the power punches and was a winner. The reaction from a partisan Scottish crowd said it all, total disbelief.

Sad thing is there’s zero chance of a rematch. Life changing decision against Jack. Literally.

His next purse will be peanuts as a 50/50 purse bid when he gets to fight for one of the belts Josh Taylor drops when he moves up later this year.
