Following my post last month, it's now just under three weeks until Sheffield United Vs Barnsley at Bramall Lane. I've organised a charity walk to raise money for Weston Park, a place very close to my heart and I'm sure many others. It will be a 7.30am start from Oakwell, hopefully with a lap around the pitch. We anticipate the walk to take between 4-5 hours. Anyone is welcome to take part; so far we have nine people involved including a couple of staff from the club. All we ask is a £10 donation to take part and then try get some sponsorship if you can. Barnsley have kindly donated a signed shirt which will be raffled or auctioned. I'm waiting to hear back from Sheffield United. For anyone on Facebook feel free to join my Fundraising page which promotes events and updates; https://www.facebook.com/groups/420990995312213/?ref=share Any donation will be greatly appreciated and can be made via the following link; https://wpcc-register-fundraiser.raisely.com/charitywalks
You might want to start earlier If you are looking at 4-5 hours. The match kicks off at 12.30 so you could be pushing it. why not see if any blades fans would like to join in? Also contact their supporters association and ask them to arrange access to a refreshment area at Bramall Lane. Hope these are useful.
To reiterate what Barnsley66 said: it's 15 miles. Averaging 3 miles per hour, which is a good pace when walking through built up areas as you have navigate side streets, traffic, pedestrian crossings etc, will take 5 hours. That doesn't account for any breaks or any unintentional detours. It's a very tough ask to make kick-off.
We did it in just over 4 hours back in October from Bramall Lane - should do very similar especially as the route is to our advantage this time.
So 10 days until a group of us walk between Oakwell and Bramall Lane, all in support for Weston Park Cancer Charity. 16 of us in total (to my knowledge) will be doing it including a couple of lads aged 12. The club kindly published an article last week which also said some club staff members would be doing it, I believe 5 committed so far. I know living costs are spiraling daily, so what cash people did have left over is need BUT if anyone can spare a donation, even if £1, please do so on our link. It really does drive us on when doing these events and does help make a difference to peoples lives. Personally, only this week my gran starts a three week course of radiotherapy at the hospital we are doing it for. Charity Stadium Walks - Register your fundraiser (raisely.com)
