On the face of it Mazepin is an innocent russian civilian who has been sacked by Haas (F1) simply for being russian. However Mazepin was only in F1 because his dad's company sponsored the team and bankrolled his seat. He was the very definition of a pay driver. His dad is very close to Putin and along with other leading russian businessmen he was involved in a meeting with Putin just hours before he ordered the invasion into Ukraine. Personally I think it's absolutely brilliant of Haas to get rid of him. They should never have gave him the seat in the first place.
Tricky one but I think Haas have done the right thing though it will give them some serious financial issues as their funding from that source will dry up. But then it probably would anyway. Far more sympathy for those Ukrainians who have lost their homes or even their lives simply for being Ukranisn
Needed sacking for his reckless driving regardless of nationality. Although I felt he got better on that front as the season went on. Made Mad Max look like a controlled and steady driver.
I Hass had to distance themselves from the sponsorship money from his rather company. Once they did that Mazepin had to go as he wasn't I the seat based on driving ability but as you rightly say he was a pay driver. If a Russian driver was at the level of Hamilton, Verstappen, Alonso ect then they would still be in the sport.
Agree with most of what has been said. Shouldn’t have got a seat in the first place. One stat I read this morning on twitter (so could be absolute *****) was that last season he had more spins than race starts. If true, says it all really. Fittipaldi to get the seat? I’d like to see Piastri given it personally but can’t see it happening.
Let's face it if Daddy didn't pump in a lot of money via sponsorship he wouldn't have been anywhere near the team.
Unfortunately, whoever comes in to replace him will also be there due to finances rather than ability. So that probably won't make much difference.
His dads cash might be hard to get hold of. crap driver paid into it by a rich family. HAAS should be competitive this year especially now they’ll have a proper driver in the seat
Don't worry about it, it's always amused me when people go into threads to state they don't care about the subject matter. On this one actually it's worth discussion even for those who have no interest in F1.
