Can't have Phil DeFreitas on that list. Performed with credit on the winning Ashes tour of 86/87, then had a golden summer against New Zealand in 94 (I think).
Ok lets remove him as actually his test bowling average wasnt that bad compared to others on the list. But from a personal point can i just add the following- His deliver stride always wound me up. 25 yard run up at speed then on his final delivery stride he would go sideways for some reason which i always thought was counter productive to a fast/medium pace bowler trying to generate pace.
Dernbach is one of the worst ever England players in my view. I've just had a punt on Lees as top run scorer at 7/1 so get ready for him not to last long shortly
Might be my memory playing tricks, but he seemed to always look like he was trying to suppress a sneeze when he was running up as well. I think the award for longest run up for little award goes to Alan Mullalley. He'd start his run up in row z, then bowl at 75mph delivery about 3 yards wide of the stumps in an aim to be economical.
Would love to seem him do well If Crawley edges one to 3rd slip I'll punch the telly though, or plays across one for an LBW. But I'm willing him to do well too
Just looked at the score seeing as its not being broadcast on Sky. A very good start by our standards... double figures for just 2 wickets. Hope they can keep up the good work and maybe reach 3 figures!
You just can’t fathom this malaise that England are going through, particularly regarding opening batsmen. The new boy Lees gone after one scoring stroke and Crawley after two boundaries. Just going to watch it for a big longer but I have no confidence in them passing 150. Shocking state that our test team is in.
It's funny what you remember isn't it? Mullally for some god foresaken reason is a player I can picture. That floppy mop, the media team calling for him to be included for his pace and as a left armer to bring lbw's into the game. But he couldn't get much movement unless he got a bit floaty. It seemed his bowling arsenal was to bowl very tight in to leg (always missing) and then as he corrected he'd be miles outside off. Didn't Caddick initially have an absolute ridiculously long run up too? And I think Devon Malcolm sometimes started on the boundary rope.
Imagine our current lot against a peak Windies bowling attack. Holding Marshall Garner Roberts or latterly Walsh and Ambrose.
This is going to be over in 3 days and we’ve just had the Pakistan Aus game that wouldn’t have been over in 7 days ! Test cricket is still the best format but it sure ain’t doing itself any favours
I vaguely remember going to a county game at Abbeydale in the seventies and the West Indian Middlesex player actually touched the boundary rope with his heel before his run up. Can’t think of his name though
