I don't know if anyone else noticed, but, unless I missed something, it was a refreshing change that a set of away supporters did not trot out the seemingly almost obligatory "Barnsley's a s***hole, I wanna go home", or "Your support is f***ing sh**", or "That's why you're going down", or jeer at the attendance figure. Good for them!

Always had a good reception at Craven Cottage.

Met some really nice Fulham fans in market kitchen they where quite hoping to see Cauley Woodrow bit disappointed when I explained he was coming back from injury.

The Fulham fans I’ve met have been very respectful .
Last time a few years ago coming out of the Dove I walked down Oakwell lane with a group and they were knowledgable ,respectful and friendly .
Also a few years earlier in town centre also respectful.
I’m sure they have they’re knob heads but I don’t recall the town centre being on alert for the arrival of Fulham fans .

When I saw the title of the thread, my first thought was that they didn't sing the first two songs/chants you mentioned. Made a refreshing change.

I recall how friendly they were after our 3-2 victory there in January 1981. As we came out of the ground after the match, we walked into their supporters in the surrounding streets. There wasn't a bit of trouble anywhere.
Totally different to nearby Chelsea where we won 2-1 the following Autumn.

There seems to be a list of obligatory chants for away fans, Barnsley included. Can add “this is a library” and “we’re the [name of town] boys making all the noise”

I was at that Chelsea game. Were Glavin and Banks the scorers? I believe we won 3-0 at Stamford Bridge the following season.

They are just a decent set of fans. It’s one of the reasons a visit to the Cottage is such a pleasure.

They might not have laughed when the attendance was announced but quite a few of us did. There’s official statistics and then there’s the truth. At Oakwell the two seem mutually exclusive.

What a great thread to read.

It's funny how the huge majority of fans really appreciate respectful opposition fans, be it Fulham, Ipswich, Bournemouth fans joining in the protest chants, whatever. It's so almost universally loved that it makes me question why the mocking chants are there in the first place.

I know it probably sounds like I'm about to burst out into a rendition of Age of Aquarius and hug a tree but feel the love man! Nobody likes to be mocked and taunted when they're already feeling down over their team's performance and life in general. Nobody remembers those fans in a good light. People remember chants like "We'll never play you again" for decades, deep seated ill will anchored to them. Wouldn't it be great if chants were funny, not mean spirited.

Most football fans for any club are sound. Even the Sheffield clubs and Leeds. It's the idiotic minority who let us all down, our fans included.

It helps when you're pissing the league but they always come across as a decent bunch unlike a few of their neighbours.

When we drop on opposition supporters at away games. I can honestly say 90+ percent are what appear to be decent folk willing to chat.
The mob mentality stays within the ground eg some of the chants. I take em with a pinch of salt.
But have to admit Fulham was a bit refreshing yesterday.
I also remember a letter Dan Jarvis received regarding how superb our support was at craven cottage a few years ago. From the MP for Fulham. Praising their support and conduct.
It’s a shame we have so many morons who now give us a bad reputation.

Nice to read something positive, wasn't it Fulham away where some of our fans went carol singing in fancy dress? I genuinely hope when Fulham are promoted they stay in the Premiership for a long time.

Absolutely! The first set of fans in a while who have actually come to support their team, rather than goad the opposition.

The Stoke fans on Tuesday night sang 5 songs, and barring a 30 second rendition of Delilah, they were all about us. Never understood that behaviour.

I was at the Fulham game and recollect that handwritten signs saying “ Yorkshire Bitter” were put in front of the pumps.
Needless to say it was as flat as a fart

I was there that night , what a night , Glynn Riley ending up between the sticks & coming out on top in a 5 goal thriller & like you say the home fans were very friendly & it was a great atmosphere , we were also booked in at bed & breakfast so we enjoyed the after match celebrations , happy days !
