Chelsea can't have tickets so it's been decided no Boro fans either..... It's crazy. Why penalise Boro. Possibly 25,000 crowd. It's because there's a 45/45% split on ticket money. Chelsea looking like they've proper taken bat and ball home. The decision brought about by CHELSEAS request !!!!! WOW. Just let everyone in and let Boro keep all the money. Job done. Madness.
No strictly true Gaz, Chelsea have made a request to the FA to play it behind closed doors. Nothing has been decided yet, Chelsea have already sold a certain amount of tickets before the sanctions were put in place so could still have some fans there
It should be played with just Boro fans selling out the whole ground and the Chelsea share of tickets be donated to charity.
Not according to Talksport (unless I've misheard misunderstood it). If I have then it's still total s h I thousery from Chelsea even attempting to have no Boro fans attend. I sincerely hope I'm wrong.
Government hasn't responded to Chelsea's request to give away their tickets for free either apparantly.
It's not right that they've requested closed doors, nor is it right that ordinary Chelsea fans are being shafted for a war that has nothing to do with them. Nor is it right that the government haven't responded to Chelsea's wish to give their allocation away to fans for free. It's a mess!
Thought Chelski had made the approach but no decision has been taken yet. Pack the place out with Boro fans paying on average 30 quid a pop. Approximate gate receipts of just over a million which makes £450k that Chelsea miss out on. Let the FA have their 10% and give Chelsea's split to the Ukranian Appeal Fund.
Statement from Chelsea We are disappointed to announce we will not be able to sell tickets for Saturday’s FA Cup tie at Middlesbrough. Despite engaging in extensive discussions with the Office of Financial Sanctions Implementation (OFSI), the deadline to purchase away tickets has passed without appropriate amendments being made to the Government licence which would allow a full allocation of Chelsea supporters to attend. Executives at Middlesbrough had been kind enough to extend their deadline for ticket sales and stadium allocation from 7.30pm last night until 9.30am this morning. It is important for the competition that the match against Middlesbrough goes ahead, however it is with extreme reluctance that we are asking the FA board to direct that the game be played behind closed doors for matters of sporting integrity. Chelsea FC recognises that such an outcome would have a huge impact on Middlesbrough and its supporters, as well as our own fans who have already bought the limited number of tickets that were sold before the licence was imposed, but we believe this is the fairest way of proceeding in the current circumstances. We will continue to discuss the issue of ticket sales with OFSI as there are a number of fixtures still to be played this season and we hope to reach a resolution. No decision on it being behind closed doors
The advantage of a home tie is lost if it's behind closed doors. Chelsea will just have to get on with it imo.
Sporting Integrity. Fantastic. 2021 - break away and join a European Super League. 2022 - we're skint, can we play behind closed doors to make things fair? #Priceless
Tbh, I think the govt have jumped in feet first on this one. As long as they stop Abramovich accessing Chelsea money or putting more in I don't really see what these sanctions are achieving, particularly given the ownership of other clubs.
So with away fans not being able to buy tickets for Chelsea games - will they request all their home games be behind closed doors too ‘to retain sporting integrity’?
Above says it's a 45/45 split? I thought that was why they are saying Chelsea can't sell tickets, because Chelsea would profit from them, hence Chelsea saying okay, we'll give them away. That's my understanding.
