Yep 4 of today's starters aren't our players and add to them probably 4 or 5 others who will be begging their agents to get them moves if / when we go down and it looks pretty bleak when you consider any players brought in will probably not be ready unless there's a marked change in the recruitment policy.
Relegation looking odds on with a mass exodus of our better players, all on the back of 6k season tickets (at the very best). Bleak times. L1 will be tough just to survive.
Any signing can prove to be failure, but you don’t mind that, as long as you can see some logic to what they are trying to do. There was none of that in the summer. Lost the captain and vice captain and brought in no experience in defence or midfield. I think even keeping Solbauer in the squad would’ve seen us above Reading.
Don't get people thinking we will struggle if we get relegated. We've been in that league many times in recent years and was only looking at possibly going to league one once when Rankin saved us. The league is rubbish so even with loanees going back we should be challenging to come straight back up like last time.
It won't just be the loanees going back there will be 4 or 5 others begging their agents to get them out of the club if / when we go down
4 loans. Helik, Styles, Woodrow going into the last year of their contract. Wolfe out of contract. £8m drop in income (at least), on top of the debt we’re already in. The spreadsheet will have to find some unknown gems if we’re going to compete in the top half of league 1.
Unfortunately, the spreadsheet is a busted flush; we've no chance of getting players such as Winnall and Hourihane.
This season in league 1 it will probably be the highest number of points needed for playoffs for a few years. Not so many draws as there usually are. Tbf, Wigan s had a whole new squad virtually and are going up. Have a feeling our owners won't be splashing the cash though!
Every transfer window we have people expecting a mass exodus so if they keep saying it maybe eventually they will be right. This lot despite many faults don't sell star players for peanuts like Patrick did with the likes of Vaz Te, Sammy The Snake and others.
Ok who replaces the 4 loanees then? helik styles and Woodrow going into last year of contract so if they don't sign another they'll be gone Wolfe and Palmer out of contract this summer so again unless they sign a new contract they're gone there's your 5 ship jumpers without even looking ,for them
Let's just say worst case scenario, we go down, and we lose Wolfe, Palmer, Styles, Helik & Woodrow. And Vita, Bassi, Gomes & Quina return to their parent clubs. We then need to factor in incoming signings, because if we are selling Styles, Helik and Woodrow, we sure ain't getting peanuts for them. Do people honestly believe the following lineup will lead us straight to relegation from League 1 to League 2 inside 12 months? Genuine question, but I don't. Collins/Walton Brittain Anderson (Replacement for Helik)/Kitching J Williams Kane Hondermarck Replacement for Styles/Benson Iseka Morris Replacement for Woodrow/Adeboyejo Subs: Oduor Halme Moon Cole Marsh Christie-Davies(?) Oulare (lol) Mid table at worst I reckon. I don't subscribe to this doomsday scenario that within 5 years we'll be making the short treck up New Lodge to face Athersley Rec.
Not sure Collins Brittain Anderson or Morris will still be here or Kane and none of the others have looked up to the job of playing first team football week in week out. As for factoring incoming signings into the equation if history is repeated you're looking at least into season 23/24 before they are ready for first team football. That's the problem the recruitment team won't be going out to sign ready to go players they'll be looking at future profit because that's their blueprint for recruitment.
If the players that I expect to leave, leave. If we have the same head coach or a similar one in position and the recruitment policies and aims stay the same I see us at the bottom end of L1 struggling to keep out of L2.
