He's already in danger of falling behind Mahmood and Fisher in the pecking order, particularly Mahmood, if he doesn't improve his fitness. Then in the summer will probably see Broad and Anderson back in the squad, with Woakes' record at home earning him a place, with Wood in there as well. Not to mention Archer and Stone if they recover from their injuries. Would be a shame if his fitness gets in the way, because he's an excellent bowler.
I think you might be right. It would be some call to give the captaincy to someone not knowing if they can average double figures yet, especially given the problems we've had with our top batting order. If he's a really good captain though, I wouldn't mind if he was average with the bat.... though prior to this test series, average would have been a marked improvement!
Lees was made captain for the Lions in Brisbane against England when only 30 overs were bowled. I agree it’s much too early for him but it signifies the possible future intent by the selecters whoever they are or will be !
Eight bowlers being used in a innings doesn't happen often. Especially on the first day of a test match or in a first innings in general.
