Taylor Hawkins, drummer with Foo Fighters dies aged 50. He had just joined the Foos weeks before I first saw them at Manchester Apollo back in May 1997. Amazing drummer and must've been hard playing in a band with one of the world's best drummers already in it. Feel for his family of course, but also Dave Grohl losing a second band member. It really affected him when Taylor nearly died of an overdose in Australia in 2001...
Very sad news to wake up to. Incredible drummer, not a bad singer either. Dave will be devastated as will his other band mates & musicians across the world. Love the Foo’s RIP Taylor
Truly sad news. Quite rightly it’s the main story on my Twitter feed, but nothing to say how he died? Just lots of testimonials about what a great drummer/guy he was.
I’m absolutely gutted. I’ve seen the Foos loads of times since their very early days. I play the drums myself so always have a particular bond with the talents of people such as Taylor. He was an outstanding drummer who suffered with his personal demons so this is incredibly sad, particularly for him to pass so young. The foos will never be the same again. There goes My Hero, Learn to Fly, RIP Taylor.
I’ve been lucky enough to see him 3 times with the Foos, sad day for music and my heart goes out to his wife and kids.
I loved Foos about 10 years ago but not listened to them much since. Couldn’t believe it when I saw it on Twitter this morning. RIP Taylor.

I don't really like the Foo Fighters. I don't dislike them, they're just not my thing. But I've seen dozens of interviews with Dave Grohl and Taylor Hawkins because they come across as such nice people. Really sad time for his family and friends. He's my age, born just a few weeks before me. I still feel like a kid. We die before we ever grow up or really understand anything.

Awful news. My best memory of him is the Everlong video. He looked extremely fanciable as a girl, unlike Dave Grohl, who looked like Alanis Morrissette whenever he got dragged up, but that is one of the strengths of the band that they never took themselves so seriously despite making some brilliant rock music.
