Anyone bothered about them tonight? It drags on and gives rich and famous people the chance to promote themselves. That said some good movies are up. Will Smith is very good in King Richard and deserves to finally win an award. Belfast is an excellent film and one of the best I have seen in recent years.

The gossip site I read that's based in Cali have said Power Of The Dog isn't winning.

Nah, I don't pay any attention to the professional awards in my own industry so I certainly won't be staying up to watch a load of luvvies have a competition as to who can virtue signal the hardest over Ukraine.

On YouTube, watch Paul Hogan’s opening speech at the 1986 Oscars. Unrehearsed, no autocue he just went on an did it. Funny

Will Smith should be thoroughly ashamed of himself today. If, after starring in the boxing film Ali, he can’t deliver a fake punch better than that, he should pack acting in as a bad job!

I still can’t figure out if it was real. Watched it about ten times and there’s no stagger from Chris Rock, he rolls the punch, and no markings or anything.

    Setup for clout?

The punch looked stage, but him shouting when he gets back to his seat didn’t. Very odd exchange.

Chris “Steel Jaw” Rock took it well. Sad that this didn’t turn into a two-hour televised bar brawl rather than the snoozefest it was.

Don't agree with physical violence but just because you're a "comedian" it doesn't give you carte balance to say what you like about people.

    Or carte blanche even :D

I agree, not a fan of violence. Not a fan of making fun of someone's health condition when they've struggled to come to terms with it either.

He was definitely angry and that verbal 'assault' felt every bit real. But the punch looked like something from WWE.

Got the Mayweather shoulder roll nailed!

It was a slap, not a punch. The pictures show his hand open immediately after too.

Which makes it even less believable. I've seen the images of his open hand, but felt that was after the clenched fist on 'contact'.

Think I might be in the minority but I can't really condemn Will Smith for what he did. Lazy, unfunny "joke" to get a cheap edgy laugh. Good for him for standing up for his wife.

I don't think staging something like this paints either of them in a good light so i very much doubt it was staged. You can tell how pissed off he is after walking away.

Bad publicity used to be valuable- not in this era of cancel culture it isn't. People are not as quick to forgive.

I can definitely empathise with him and why he felt the need to stand up for his wife, but in hindsight I'm sure he wishes he dealt with it differently.
