Just playing cards with the missus, she dealt me 4 consecutive Aces, anyone beat that? Also many many moons ago I got dealt 3 threes in 3 card brag.
It's an interesting probability fact that each time you shuffle a deck of cards it's almost certainly the first time in history that particular order has ever existed and it likely won't ever happen again
There's a small cul-de-sac just as you drive in to Cawthorne (From Kexbrough) called Five Acres. First road on your left as you come over the brow of the hill and get into the village. I'm in the back car and we're going on holiday, just set off. I'm about 5 years old, just learnt to read, clearly not very well. The sign on the end of the road, to me, read Five Arses. And it still does. And it will forever. And it's still the funniest thing that I've ever known. That's my utterly irrelevant Four Aces story.
Once had a poker hand dealt of 9,10,J,Q,K of diamonds. Must have shown on my face because everyone folded and I won bugger all.
I only won 11 quid with my 3 threes, and the bloke I was betting against had A.K.Q. Of hearts, some w@nker tipped him off
I've had 3 three's twice. Second time was (strangely) at the old social club at the corner of the Ponty End. It was about 1987-8 ish and I won about £50. That's when Season Tickets were about £75 (I think). I thought I'd won the moon that night.
The number of potential permutations when dealing a 52 card deck of cards seems pretty straightforward at 52! or 52x51x50…x2x1. The number is mind blowingly big at 8 with about 67 zeros after it. To put that number in context, if everyone in the world played a hand of cards every second and did so for 1000 trillion years the odds of dealing the same hand would be about 50%. However the odds of drawing four aces from a deck is by contrast not that unlikely at 270,000 to 1. The calculation is more complicated by how many players there are but that gives a rough estimate of the relative likelihood of getting four cards the same. In poker the odds of getting two aces in the pocket is around 220/1. When i first looked at this thread i thought it was going to be about the three acres restaurant.
