There speaks someone who knows what he's talking about. I feel like I need several years of study to properly understand that never mind offer a counter argument.

Glad someone sees what I am saying. They have plenty of notice to find another premises. People are talking like the owner of the building shouldn't be allowed to do what they want with their own property.

Plenty of entertainment venues change home not just Football clubs. It's the music and the people that make venue more than any bricks and mortar can.

I saw King of the Slums at the Leadmill. One of my favourite bands when I was at school - no-one else seemed to think they were any good though.

I've just looked in the mirror. I'm fine with my post. I haven't abused anyone. I've been passionate about my beliefs but they will remain tomorrow and for the rest of my days. Because they're real and worthy. Do you feel the same?

Concert venues are absolutely what makes a good night out. It is part of the charm. You couldn't demolish the Brudenell and rebuild it somewhere else, it just wouldn't be the same. The same applies to the Leadmill and many other smaller venues out there.

I suspect anyone feeling otherwise doesn't go to the above types of venues and is more familiar with sterile arenas etc. which are pretty much the same wherever you go.

Some of the people on this thread just fundamentally have no idea of the importance of an established arts venue. Zero idea. Just build another. I’d suggest there’s very little point trying to explain what it means. Save your energy.

I didn't tell you to 'f**k you' either. I wrote an opinion that put nostalgia and belonging over corporate greed, and that anyone on the side of capitalism can go f**k themselves. And I will argue that point until the day I die. And if you want to take that personally then go right ahead. It wasn't, but you can if you want. Your post to me was very personal and deliberately offensive. My post to you was about an ideal, it was an argument that I will still believe 100% tomorrow. So I ask you again, I can look in the mirror and be happy about what I said, can you?

Yes I can because you do have a long history of getting extremely abusive on here at night Jay. You're a great guy who I have a lot of time for (as you know) but come on, you have to admit you do have a lot of history of flying off the handle and telling people to go **** themselves. So do I to be fair

SuperTyke/Jay, please don’t fall out. You are by far and away my favourite two (outspoken) posters, but also, save the rest of us before someone drops in that sickly ‘popcorn’ comment or emoji.
From Jay’s perspective, The Leadmill is a fantastic music venue and would be a sad, sad loss to South Yorkshire. From SuperTyke’s, a tenant should not have more rights to a property than the owner.
So, effectively, you are both right, but viewing it from different angles.

As an aside, my first trip there was to see Paul Weller, around 1994ish. I was hoping for him to belt his Jam classics out but he was too busy concentrating on pushing his dreary Stanley Road album.

I understand the importance of it. I see it a bit similar to Oakwell really. The football would be the same somewhere else but it wouldn't be the same. All I was getting at is that somewhere there has to be a recognition that landlords can't be forced to retain a tenant forever surely? It can't be right that a tenant can hold the land owner to ransom. I'm not saying that's happening here, my point was more of a general one than specifically about this situation.

What I think is happening is that they don't actually want them out but want them to either buy the building or to renegotiate or something like that so they send out a notice to force the issue. A bit like the reverse of what Conway has been doing by contacting other clubs to ground share. He doesn't want to ground share but wants to force the council's hand to get a bargain. If that's what's happening it's bang out of order

That's a fair point JBP. We are just looking at the opposite sides but I agree we are both right. Also definitely don't want to fall ot with Jay because I've told him many times he's one of my favourite posters and so if I offended him with my comment then I apologise for that.

I'm not going to fall out with Supertyke. If I was I wouldn't have wasted the last 20 years not falling out with him. That's taken a lot of energy, we had to cut down a lot of rainforests. There's no point doing it now after all that destruction.

The Leadmill holds a special place in my heart and - like many others before me in this thread - was the most significant place in my formative musical education. I was pretty much a regular there every Saturday night from September 90 to August 92. Highlights include seeing and being introduced to Cud, Pulp, Teenage Fanclub and Pavement.

    Shame if it happens.

I suppose if the landlord is entitled to give 12months notice, then fair enough, but still a shame.

I wonder if the management ever tried to buy the freehold themselves? Unless the rent was that cheap they didn’t want to?

Tragedy if the Leadmill closes it’s doors. Fantastic little music venue that I’ve enjoyed a fair few nights at over the years.
