Absolutely shocking service by who ever is responsible, chalked **** on it after 15 minutes after 2 queues became a free for all
Someone further down the page has said the reason is because they have laid off some catering staff. If true,I honestly believe nobody in a decision-making position at the club have ever run a business before...
Don’t fool yourselves that we can’t attract decent players and pay their wages. P I s s ing money away these T Wats
Not just Oakwell. Let the missus have use of the car and thought I'd take the train from the Holme Valley and head straight up to Oakwell from the Interchange. One train an hour on the Penistone line and the 13:24 is cancelled because of a lack of staff. No mention of the 14:24 which, even if it was running, would have meant me missing kick off. Listened on Radio Sheffield instead!
Middle bar in East Stand was cordoned off too. The service to the fans is shocking. so.. no pint at half time.
Got to consider that Covid rates are very high at the moment. 1-in-13 have got it think? So it’s likely some of the outlets will be short staffed because of this. The West Stand kiosk was half closed too. Although tbf, with Oakwell catering, nothing surprises me.
The club literally can’t control no shows from catering staff hours before their shifts are due to start. Nobody has been laid off (just to dispel the rumour above), but they were left massively short and had to shut bars on two of the concourses. I’m not sure what the club can do about that and I would guarantee they’re not the only football league club that have had to do similar today.
Yeah, I know it’s a widespread issue in hospitality - getting and retaining decent staff is hard. A high percentage of Youth of today aren’t as bothered either.
Surely as a business if the club contract out to a company their catering, which is a pretty important part of the match day experience, they should have a contingency in place for this? Covid has been around for 2 years, have agency staff as a back up and another agency as back up to them. It's not acceptable to blame covid, it's not rocket science to prepare and have a solution in place. It just depends how professional an outfit you are and how highly you value your customer.
They’re not as bothered. And I’m not sure it’s that much fun serving some football fans that you want to come back and do it game after game.
The club don’t contract out the catering. It’s all in house. How many staff do you think are available at short notice like a couple of hours? If a whole industry is struggling, like events and hospitality is right now, there’s not a ton of people waiting to step in last minute and work. I love how easy you make it sound.
I know it's not easy, I'm in the business. There are solutions, it won't be perfect, but it's better than throwing hands in the air, closing and blaming a 2 year old surprise.
And to be fair to the Club, aside from the catering, everything else they are involved in is really ‘professional’.
