Just seen John’s Post re this on the East Dene Reds FB page. John is the main organiser there and I can vouch that this is genuine info.

Shows how much interest I've shown this season . I thought we'd already played them.

Despite it only being down the road, fair play to those going to this one. Could be relegated that night.

It's almost as if they want to make it as difficult as possible for people to get home.

Don't think I can be arsed to go and I never miss my hometown club. Night game, on TV and they could confirm our relegation.

As for the train you'd think Northern Rail would put on another train like they did for Huddersfield fans coming back from Oakwell. My MP Mark Eastwood and others on the Penistone Line have been trying to get trains on there every half hour instead of one an hour. I don't think it is needed, but what is needed is three carriages every hour rather than two.

As it stands there aren’t enough passing loops on the single line section to be able to make this happen, not to mention the limited paths available into Sheffield station. I think the line is already heavily subsidised so I can’t imagine it’ll happen anytime soon.

Reinstating the line near Horbury junction to create a fast service to Huddersfield would be better, but that’ll never happen either. It’s crazy to think how many railway lines there used to be in and around Barnsley, quite a few of those would be quite useful for passenger services today.

Lots of stations just before covid came along least in Huddersfield had platforms made longer to be able to fit three carriages, including the start of the journey in Huddersfield where the platform goes nearly to the tunnel.

I have emailed Northern Rail about it before asking why they spent time and money to extend platforms if they weren't going to use them and told them how during a pandemic now more than ever at least during the busier times of day it is needed. All I got was a generic response saying all available carriages are in use.

Probably because they wanted to use them, good thing, but we're then refused funding to improve trains, adding carriages, etc.
Nothing to do with the North/South divide of course...

Typical blinking British Snail. Chance given to make a bit of 'dosh' and they reduce trains and carriages (instead of putting more on).
Beggers belief, but the Country seems more and more to be run by complete idiots.

I thought this would be the case which is why I'd decided not to go.
