If anyone whinges about this they’re wrong. This (at first reading) seems objectively a good thing.

All getting a little bit 'The Ladybird Book of Cynical Marketing Ploys' isn't it.

Play on the pitch. "Roots". Talk about emotional manipulation.

What's next, an "Are you a real fan? TAKE THE QUIZ NOW!" campaign?

Can't knock it, but would rather it be a set sum rather than dependent on season ticket sales.

They could just donate it anyway, if they care about our roots so much, couldn't they?
Why does anyone need to buy a ticket?
Does their perception of our roots and their value fluctuate depending on sales?

I am not sure this is an initiative to buy anything & certainly not begging , the club should be involved in grass roots, donkeys years ago they would donate old kits & footballs etc but any involvement is better than none at all .

But wouldn't the sum that can be afforded be dependant on season ticket sales?

Or they could've just not donated, and stuck with the voluntary work that they've also said that they're doing.

And of course some people are knocking it. Typical of the bbs right now.

And the rest of the posters who jump on anything negative aren’t on this thread because it’s something positive and they can’t bring themselves to engage with it because it doesn’t fit in with their position.

Well I'm going to knock it. It's pure cynicism and manipulation as mentioned above. It's a laudable idea so just donate the 20k with no strings instead of tying it to season ticket sales.
You really wonder at how clumsy the messaging of this lot can get. They know they're going to struggle to sell season tickets so they try some emotional blackmail to tie sales to a charitable donation.
Here's an idea Khaled. Do something actually altruistic and just give the local clubs the money now.

Yup sorry but that’s my view too.

perhaps it’s got something to do with the trust and confidence they have breached on other matters, especially finance related. Sad, but true.

Agree with Churtonred. They're billionaires. If they can't donate 20k then it's a bad job. If they want their local clubs then that's great- if they don't, they shouldn't try to guilt trip fans into thinking they must renew.

If we sell 6999 tickets, do they simply say "sorry Wombwell Main, you were next on the list, but Fonzie hasn't renewed, so you can go whistle".

Remember these are the same owners who, when the season went behind closed doors, released a statement begging supporters to donate their season ticket money to keep their company going whilst refusing to inject any of their own money to their own company

God love the bbs. No complaints about not donating money to grassroots, until they announce that they will donate money to grassroots.

No... But like last week's.. rolling out the old boys... Its definitely emotional blackmail.
With us being so woeful it's about the only thing left . The timing was almost perfect to get everyone behind the team for another... All in this together, great escape..
Be we fecked up bid time against Reading..
Which kinda spoilt our ST plan.
