I have an idea some might see it as simplistic

or even controversial but here goes when recruiting players in future why don't Barnsley FC go back to trying to sign the best players they can afford to sign for each position instead of constantly gambling on projects in an up to now fruitless effort to maximize profit on player trading. Correct me if I'm wrong but we've not sold a player for any real profit signed under the current boards stewardship and the players that we have made money on were signed under the former owner.

Also remember the good old days when we use to sign experienced players

Loads of other clubs try to sign the best players for each position. Clubs that we can't compete with financially and we generally miss out on those players, so we end up consulting the random number generator to see if there are any players that fit our criteria in the Moldovan D league (or whatever).

Long story short... Everyone wants the best players and we get priced out of it.

Crazy talk! If we did that it would imply an attempt to be competitive on the pitch.

Anything in Football comes with a lag.

    Transfers are one.

I'd like to think we can and will get very good value for players in this squad. Anderson and Styles have been the two main ones due to age and contract length. Helik and Morris could be players we get good fees for too.

But you can only have so many players in each squad. Why can't we try for the not getting played regularly at current club market, but are prepared to take a wage cut in order to have a real chance of doing so?

We used to sign lower league players who were their club's Player of the Season. Hourihaine, Scowen Winnall and Luke Berry were all star players at their previous clubs.

The trouble is, the majority of clubs recruit like this now. Back then we were one of the minority.

Well we have to do something different because the strategy being adopted at the moment has led to the worst season in living memory if not ever

we got 10000 season ticket holders at best, we not big enough name to attract giant sponsor money, so we can not compete only by speculating on youngsters and hoping we get a star, bit like when I was greyhound racing and I had to buy pups and hope they turned out stars so I could get the money to buy a kennel of decent dogs, sadly I never did , had one pup who was A8 at sheffield and its litter mate was running in the irish derby final same night, if I had picked the pup to my right instead of left that day I bought him, would have got the star dog I wanted, even worse for us though because no big kennels could tempt my pups with promise of better dinners and a big bone, like the academy players of BFC, was talking to Bobby Hassell once and he said it been a big problem in recent years big clubs poaching our talent

How’s about having some home grown players in the team? Barnsley/South Yorkshire lads.

Or, sign the best combination of players to make up the best team we can.

But that would likely involve signing one or two that would get a negative reaction on here. There were some posts on here in August saying that they wouldn't want us to sign Conor Hourihane!

It only really goes wonky when Conway circumvents the process and decides he's a player trading maverick.

Or why don’t we adjust the plan slightly, keep signing these players from the spreadsheet, but sign 2-3 experienced players to compliment the gambles & help their progress. When I say experienced I don’t mean age. I mean plenty of games played at this level or just even EFL football. So a league 2 player under 25 who has played over 200 games for example.

Can I ask you how many players have played better for Barnsley this season than Remy Vita or Claudio Gomes?

People are also loving Wolfe at the moment. How many games he played at the championship standard?

You don't think Gomes and Wolfe would've benefitted from playing alongside one or two more experienced midfielders? A bit of know how in the middle would've helped us against Reading for example.
