Playing Woodrow makes him a saleable asset again.

Everyone is worrying about who’s sold - to be honest I’m worrying we will be able to sell enough to plug the money gap and not go under.

I’ve felt for a while that the way these owners might leave is with the club in administration.

If they need to sell five six or even more players to avoid that, and bring cheaper replacements in, then so long as that leaves us with enough to keep our heads above water in league one then I’d take it.

I think we need to take a reality pill. It’s all well and good saying this squad will be good in league one. We need to decimate the squad to keep the club afloat. Yes we can whinge and bandy about blame - but the club surviving has to eclipse everything else and realistically administration could be a real possibility as these owners are not going to put any money in.

I don’t have an issue with people criticising the owners at all.

But it’s not just the 80%ers - if you’re going to make comments about the transfer policy that was started by the people that currently own 20% it makes more sense to call out all of the owners doesn’t it?

Agreed, I think 100% of the owners should accept responsibility.

The mismanagement that led to this relegation started last season, when the owners failed to do anything about the fact that the CEO had a contract that was about to expire. Instead, they were suing each other and asking Wigan Athletic if we could borrow their ground.

He looked a whole load better yesterday, not having to fight for a long ball punt.

Then again, he wasn't remotely a goal threat either. More like a poor man's Harry Kane.

If we all think it's the position that's the problem and no service, then with these owners we're not playing that way then he's become redundant, I agree he plays up top with another striker, so for me he moves on, because for some reason he not being played in the right way.

Oh OK then he's been brilliant, let's all pretend. he's gone downhill for over a year and it'll continue while he's not being played up top. If any player on any other team has been poor for that long then fans will start getting grumpy no one's immune to criticism on the Football pitch especially if your one of the highest earners and captain. He's plays at the business end of the pitch and no business is being produced.

It’s not about him being immune to criticism and protecting him though. He simply hasn’t been poor for as long as you say he has. Yes He became less effective and then his form seemed to suffer. He was accused of being idle and uncaring which were total ******. Of course he had poor games, who doesn’t? This assertion that he’s been poor or crap for 12 months or whatever is wrong and unjust and saying so is not making him immune from criticism

I wouldn't say he hasn't tried he has in a fashion but, he's been woeful since nearly the end of last season, don't now why I'm not hating the person but his form has been poor, don't know why his protectors are not seeing that, maybe people just like to argue the toss, very rare you get that many people agreeing. He's come back from injury it's hard but I'm tipping we'll see no difference in him, same goes with most of the team to be fair.

‘ his protectors’ by this you mean people who disagree with you? Why would you hate a player anyway? Also, ‘he’s tried in a fashion’ what does that even mean? I think it’s you who is arguing the toss. It will be difficult for any player coming back from a long absence to try and make any impact on a team that are almost down. Just hope he can show he’s fully recovered from the injury and hope that he’s leading our charge back up next season, who knows we’ll see

    Why do we do this?
The best player we’ve had for 5 years.
In an elite position (for us of 50 goals plus).
Not far off being out top scorer again this season inspite of not playing since before Christmas.
    Yet…
In a cameo return from a prolonged lay off he’s
    - overweight
    -off the pace
    And probably most tellingly
    - Not scored a ten minute hat-trick to win us the game.
    FFS!!!

What would you have the Club do? Wilfully exclude him, to avoid creating an illusion among fans that it might be some elaborate ploy?

If nothing else it’s disrespectful to the back room team, to suggest Vikki & co would compromise a player’s rehab.

    What is a Woodrow protector?

Let’s be clear most of us thought he was below his best at the start of the season. And some suggested with good reason that maybe he should be rested for a game or 2. I now wonder if he was already carrying an injury. Though he could just have been as off form as the rest of the team.

But only someone with a predetermined dislike of a player would criticise him for not being full match fit first game backafter being injured for half a season

He has proven to be one of our better players over several years that’s why some fans aren’t too critical he didn’t set the game alight on his return.

I’m honestly not sure he would get a Championship team come in for him at this point. Potentially one of the promoted L1 teams. If I was a fan of any other Champ team, it would feel like a bit of a gamble. A squad signing at best.

Maybe if he’s on fire for us next season and gets to double figures by Christmas, he’ll get poached in January.

Football is mad though, so who knows.

He was off the pace quite a bit a looked jaded in his performances.

It seems he’d been carrying an injury for a long time, that makes sense to me.

A fully fit and in form Cauley Woodrow is still our best player I’d say. I doubt he’ll be here but he’d be some asset next season.

He was shielded from criticism on here a little - I was one who suggested he ought to be out of the team for a bit when a lot were saying he had to play - but given we now know he was playing with an injury for a while, and we’ve seen what he’s capable of prior to that, I think he’s earnt more respect than he now seems to be getting in some quarters.

We put together a team that created bugger all in the first half of the season and you blame a striker out injured since 11 December, who's in our all-time top 20 goalscorers. A strange train of thought.
