I don't believe in god and the rational me sitting here at the kitchen table in broad daylight doesn't believe in ghosts either. Nevertheless I'm scared witless of seeing one.
Many years ago my ex and I bought an old farmhouse that dated back to the 1690s. We were opening up the top floor that had once been used but had been blocked up for about 200 years. Loads of work. I came home one evening, first one home. It was winter and dark. I went in and got half way up the stairs when I heard a woman's voice coming from the top floor. I was down those stairs so fast and out of the house I'd have beaten Linford Christie for pace.
Only about five minutes later did a rational explanation occur and I very nervously went back in to listen and realised the builders had gone home and left the radio playing on the top floor. Phew!
On the general subject I tend not to believe and have never experienced anything that wasn't actually Radio 4 but I have to say I've known three people who I trust who said they have. So it makes yer think.

I’ve had sleep paralysis as well and I agree with you it is supernatural and not always the same. I’ve had ones that are threatening and others that are quite calm.
I think on the subject of ghosts seeing is not believing. It can be a noise, a sense, or a scent. I think it’s more common than people think.
I always tell myself that they can’t hurt you and nothing to worry about.

They don’t share it about because of the effect on property value.

Tbf you've got a point there. I've never once seen 'demonic possession' mentioned on a Rightmove listing.

Think about how much of your financial wealth is tied up in your house. If it becomes unsaleable because of a poltergeist what happens then?. Of course you’d keep it quiet.

If a house became known for that it could indeed impact people's willingness to buy it. On the other hand if it were actually true and as such provable I think this would actually increase the property value. The only house in the world with proof of supernatural and existence beyond what we understand.

I'd definitely pay to see it. Neighbours would have gift shops and burger vans. Premier Inn would be fully booked for years. Town would be buzzing. I wish my house was haunted.

no point trying to convince anyone who doesnt believe because they've never seen one.

when i got courting my ex wife I stayed at their house one night, sleeping on the settee, i woke up whilst it was still dark and there was a ghost sat in the chair opposite me, crystal clear but transparent, i can still see him now, jeans, denim jacket white t shirt, gold rimmed square glasses.. i fuckin **** myself and got under the blanket and when i looked back at him he literally faded away.

no lies here mate, on my kids lives.

I believe some people genuinely believe they have seen a ghost. The brain can play some really incredible tricks on our minds. I have seen this first hand myself.

I like that fact that people find comfort in the thought of meeting up again with loved ones after death. I personally think it's a load of old ballax but what do I know.

Don’t know whether I put this on last time the ghost thing came up on this board, but here goes. In our last house which was a converted barn a couple of hundred years old strange things happened.
Now we lived there for over twenty years so it didn’t put us off and we lived very happily with it. Over that period of time there were only a couple of things that I could present as evidence, but we had footsteps upstairs all the time. So often that we ignored it.
I got up one morning and walked into the kitchen and there were light bulbs on the floor. They were from the inside of a kitchen cabinet the glass door of which was closed. There was only my wife and I in the house and she was still in bed.
On another occasion in the middle of the night the stereo came on full blast. We hadn’t been using it and it didn’t have any sophisticated timing devices or anything on it.
I had an operation on my stomach and had to sleep downstairs. I said when I got back from hospital to the ‘ghost’ “I’m not well and I don’t want any trouble from you”. An hour later I woke up with lots of noise in the room and something banging loudly under the bed. I started shouting and my wife came in. She hadn’t heard anything other than me shouting.
So there you go, three events in twenty odd years and the footsteps all the time. Make of it what you will, I never saw a ghost and I wasn’t afraid of it. We got on together and a friend who claimed to be psychic said it was the ghost of a twelve year old girl.

I was looking after the house and German Shepherd whilst my parents went away for the week. I got home after work, let Arnold out in the back yard. We stayed up while midnight watching t.v.

Anyway it was time for bed and I locked up. Half way up the stairs there were three knocks on the living room door coming from inside the living room. I rushed down the stairs with Arnold put him on his lead opened the front door and phoned my parents from the street.

They told me how daft I'd been and the dead can't hurt you it's the living you've to worry about. Eventually I plucked up courage to go back in and up to my room with the dog. I didn't sleep a wink.

Arnold never battered an eyelid. Anyway the next evening Neil ( sisters fella at the time) came round with his Xbox and kept me company until my parents got back.

To this day I still think there's a presence at my Mum n' Dad's. They reckon it's the ghost of my dead brother Paul.

Everyone's heard of the Enfield haunted house darn sarth, but did you now there's one in pontefract you can visit, you can even spend the night there aswell if your brave enough or you can just visit.
The one in ponty is called 30 east drive, apparently the owners 30 years or so ago immediately got up and left after a series of hauntings and the home is as exactly how they left it. It's on Google if interested.
