Away games, other than cup games, are absolutely fine within a NAPM protest. I'll still look to go to some of them next season.
I am so conflicted. I haven't missed a season for 31 years, used to pay on the gate until PL season and have sat in the same seat ever since. I don't want to turn my back on the club but I do think keeping my hand in my pocket is literally the only thing that will make the owners notice. There's no such thing as a glory hound Barnsley fan. We all know that we'll lose our fair share and when we unearth a gem of a player he's not going to be with us in the long run. I can take losing games, good job really. I can't take being a player factory with no desire to entertain or win. I can't take another season of dour defensive football designed to up possession stats and completed passing (even though it doesn't achieve that anyway). I have better ways to spend a Saturday if that is the best we can aspire to. It will be the first time I haven't renewed but I genuinely believe it is the ONLY way to make my voice heard. To be clear, I don't criticise anyone for renewing, I agonised about it and it took me a while to decide what I would do.
I completely get why people aren't going to renew and respect the reasoning behind it. However, I'm not sure the owners will be that bothered. Crowds and subsequently the playing budget will drop so they'll cut their cloth accordingly. The only ones to suffer in my opinion will be the club itself and the fans left, plus the loyal staff who will inevitably lose their jobs. Not sure what the answer is, sadly. The only way out is a prospective buyer but not got a clue where we'll find that.
I have renewed simply because I want to , I also love the seat I have got in the west stand , I kicked off big time when I was upended from my seat but thankfully we got our seats back & therefore I shall continue, had I been forced to move permanently then my loyalty would have been tested .
I personally think that given all the care about is money it’s the only tool we have to try and leverage them into selling the club. Yes playing budget will decrease but so will the value of the club and it’s players.
To sell the club there needs to be a buyer, that's where the difficulty lies. The more debt we stack up the harder it'll be to find one.
Something's got them rattled at ASNancy, enough to have Chien Lee rush over. They're an investment vehicle, they need the good publicity.
As you said they won’t invest so won’t stack up debt. They aren’t ever anywhere for the long haul and I would say given that they have spent the cash reserves they would already be looking at a loss the longer they leave it the more their investment depreciates.
I've decided to renew, but after much deliberation. My other options for a Saturday afternoon were going shopping with the wife and daughter.... that won't be happening lol In fact I'd pay money not to do that, so I'll give it to BFC, hopefully it'll keep someone in a job. This doesn't mean that I'm happy with the owners, far from it. My only form of protest will be to renew on deadline day. This from a person that's had a season ticket for over 40 years and probably missed about 10 home games in that time. Such a sad state of affairs
Thats where me and Dad are - Dads been in his seat since the prem season, but has been going regularly to most home games since before I was born mostly standing in the Old Brewery Stand and we have been going together since the 1970/71 season though for a long period in the 80's and 90's I was only a occasional visitor a few times a season. Since we came out of Admin I've gone to most Saturday home games and took over the Seat next to him when the older friend he had always gone with wasnt able to go anymore. Dad wouldnt have renewed had we been forced back to the East Stand though and I probably wouldnt either. we did have a discussion about not renewing but for the last 20 years Its been a good reason for me to drive up to Barnsley to see him and go to the match together. I dont want Conway to stop that escpecially as Dad hasnt many more seasons left. I do know that if they decide due to insufficient sales to close the West Stand for next season we will be taking a refund this time not moving to the East. I also know the daughter of the friend Dad used to go with who has also had a ST for years along with her husband close to our seats, took the refund when we closed the stand and hasnt been back since, and isnt renewing for next season.
With you unwilling to sit anywhere but the west stand would you simply stop going if it got bulldozed to be rebuilt? That would be a shame.
It sounds like match day is special for you for family reasons as well as football which is great , its a shame the club took the route they did this season as I thought it was a massive own goal , you make a very interesting point about potentially shutting the stand because of poor sales & to be honest I had not considered that , however if that came to fruition then it would test my loyalty to the extreme , anyway its a bridge we might not have to cross , I hope you & your dad enjoy plenty of special days in the future
No but Dad would probably seriously think about picking carefully his matches and definitely wouldnt renew his ST. I might but by no means certain He wouldn't be able to do the stairs on the East Upper, and the roof doesn't cover the East lower as we found out the last game we were there. He doesn't fancy a soaking like the one we had in early November again. But in any case we have or rather had a great group we sat with 4 of those took the refunds and havent come back but there are still a smaller group round us who are still going - though whether they renew for next season is still to be seen - one family I am sure will as the grandkids are very keen not so sure about the rest.
Football at this level is a business and cost cutting only works up to a point. If your customers don't like the product you're selling is it their responsibility to fund your business or yours, as an owner, to invest money in to the product(s) you're selling to make it a more attractive offer to your customers?
Not sure they're willing to fund anything. Cash-rich owners wilfully running down the quality & material worth of one of their own assets is utterly bizarre and not something I've encountered in any other line of business. I'm yet to see even an attempt at an explanation for this policy. When the club's main sponsors start jumping ship, which they will, where then for tarn??
Trouble is, any money they put in won't be an investment, it would be a loan. Not sure I'd like to see this lot being owed money by BFC.
I have to confess I too find their business model bizarre. When they own a string of clubs across Europe and none appear to be successful because they all follow the same business model I have to question their motives. I totally get Abramovich basking in the glory of the achievements of his Chelsea team and yet we appear to have owners that appear indifferent to the fact that, by and large, they own a string of failing football clubs. What is in it for PMG?
