You laugh! I remember seeing Eddie play Fred Davis in a second round match on a quiet Wednesday in 1979. There wasn't a large crowd, and the match was so slow that at one point old Fred (who was in the twilight of his career) went and sat with his cue in the front row next to someone while Eddie was on a particularly long and slow break! Some guy though, Eddie. According to Wiki he was a coalminer until he was 31. But he engaged in surfing, rugby and cricket before turning a pro snooker player on the advice of none other than Fred Davis!
I had to go to bed couldn't believe the number of fluked shots! Was surprised Shaun Murphy was commentating while still in the competition, particularly the same day.
Kaht Junior and myself both felt it suggested that his expectations for his own progress in the tournament were limited! The Racing Post's preview on Saturday reported: "Of the other seeds, there have been reports recently that Murphy has not been in peak physical condition for the task ahead." His appearance even in the darkened commentary box on Saturday morning seemed to confirm that view - although I'd be the last to throw stones!
Who’s on your table this Sunday ? Higgins and Robertson are involved in morning and afternoon sessions so hope you’re lucky !
Only limited opposition faced so far, but Mark Williams looks in awesome form. Quite a surprise to see he is still available at 10/1 with Bet365.
Hope it’s an oldie final with Higgins playing Williams. There’s probably only Ronnie playing that would generate more interest. It’s really astounding how the above three are still in the top 8 at their stage of life.
We're going in the afternoon so it's Trump vs Mcgill and Robertson vs Lisowski. We always get seats so we can see both tables. Looking forward to it.
Two of the three I picked as a new champion Bingtao and Wilson are still in it. Bingtao did very well to beat Selby. Crucible record frame length would have been boring though. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/snooker/61203536
Bingtao played fantastically well. As they said on Eurosport, he out-Selby'd Selby! It didn't seem to me that Mark did a lot wrong, with three centuries and three breaks of 80+ in the match. But Yan was rock-steady, and his safety play was equal to Selby's. His match with a very much in-form Mark Williams will be very, very interesting. Helen - enjoy your session today! Both matches are well-poised and you should see some good stuff.
It was quite good actualky, stopped up to watch it. Always hoped Ding would become the fiirst to win the world championship as he was the trail blazer but Bingtao is still very young and seems to have the right temperament.
I think Wilson and Bingtao will be the top two in the game in a few years time. They're both shoe-ins for future world champion. I've said for a few years that Wilson seems to come alive in the big tournaments with longer matches. Ronnie's still going strong though.
