I haven't understood the clamour for Devaney. Nothing against him though and it's a great chance for him to step in and show us what he's made off. Good luck Martin.
Why has it taken 'til now though? Did he have a "relegation clause" which made him safe until it was definite? If that's the case and in light of his "we were already relegated when I came here...." comment, he's out-conned the Conman, for which I applaud him if nothing else!
To be fair, now he's gone, I wish him all the best! it was nothing personal, emotions were high , we have all had a bad experience and now its done, so lets just move on. Hopefully we will have somebody inspiring in place to attract players and talk to existing players.
I hope he gets the job. We need to feel connected to the club again and step 1 in that would be a manager who we know, and who knows the club. I don't want to start in L1 with another manager who comes from the outer reaches of the continent, who we have never heard of and who has never before stepped foot on this country. Devaney may not be a good manager. It may be another John Hendrie type of appointment to appease the fans. We don't know. Equally, he may be another Danny Wilson mk1, or Paul Warne and he has got a good reputation with the U23s. I would be happy to start with that I know his name. I think giving the job to Devaney will sell a few more season tickets as I reckon plenty would feel the same.
First sensible decision in a while. Hopefully Tuesday may offer a bit more in trying to win a game! Tbf it would have ben very uncomfortable at Oakwell for him these remaining matches. Hopefully he'll find a role he's more suited to, but imo that's not managing professional league football.
I kind of get that, as we know little of his actual pedigree as a manager. I think the big appeal, for wanting Disco, is the fact he actually CARES for this club. I love to see a manager celebrate a win like the fans do, because it matters rather than just a ‘phew, my jobs safe for another week’ fist pump. I think it’s similar to the reason why we’ve all taken Matty Wolfe to our hearts. Yes, he does have the makings of being a good player, but he is one of very few who actually WANTS to play for us rather than just pick a wage up. Since the days of Cryne, Hecky and Marc Roberts the local connections have disappeared. So Devaney gives us a bit of that back and hopefully some young hungry local players who play for us with pride.
Yep, agree with all of that. Plus, after all the grief I've given the CEO in the past few weeks I have to applaud a really sensible decision. In terms of getting some fans back on side and boosting season ticket sales this has got to help.
Re John Hendry. I don't think he was given a fair crack of the whip, He was doing ok. Lots of Injuries hampered team selections. Re Devaney. Hope he cuts it. But I wouldnt want to be head coach under this lot. He needs to be able to manage his first team and make his own mark.
More incompetence from the CEO, it should have been done regardless. How long is he going to muddle his way through this job?
I hope you are right regarding season tickets. Tuesday, for example, I think a lot would have stayed away, some may have turned up to simply vent their anger at Ashbagi. But I actually think there could be a decent atmosphere now. We are down, we have nothing to play for, but have ‘one of our own’ taking charge. Hope we get behind him.
