I remember thinking Dougall wasn't quite good enough

I liked him, but he just didn't have the quality compared to what we were assembling at the time.

He is light years ahead of what we've got now. It's like watching a professional footballer playing against someone who has won a competition to play. Embarrassing.

Didn’t we release him to play Aapo Halme as a defensive midfielder? Have we actually had a defensive midfielder since?

I thought letting him go was a mistake at the time. Bittersweet he’s showing he’s good enough at championship level for someone else.

Decent enough player & we should have kept him for me. He’d be like a Xavi/ Iniesta if he were in our squad now.

Good luck to him, he's got a club that believe in him, we'd have written him off in the championship after a few poor games.

He didn’t have a pre season when we were promoted to the champ and was coming back from a broken leg. He had a hand full of games in a team that was getting chopped and changed every week and struggling. I didn’t agree with letting him go at the time and thought he was more than good enough for our squad.

I said at the time it was a mistake letting him go.

Exactly the sort of player we've been needing since...since we let Dougall go.

He was good for us but we can't compare how he was then to how he is now. Since we got shut of him we've had one of our best ever seasons and nobody was saying then that they wish he was still here.

We didn't really need a midfield last season.

He wasn’t good enough for the team we had at the time but he’s miles in front of what we’ve got now both in effort and skill .
To be getting rid of a player of his quality at the time I thought we were looking forward . Little did I know

True. But him not playing was hampering his recovery. He needed games at the time to get back into it, but couldn’t get them.

Tricky one really - he is a quality player, but I think the move was probably right for him, and it would have been unfair from us to stand in his way.

McGheehan, Potts and Mowatt were bossing it at the time iirc? He couldn’t get that run.

No, didn't we release him because he was 26? And replaced him with Kane.

Just reading that it sounds ******* mental as a concept. Most players are just entering their prime at that point.

There was quite a gap between Dougall being released and Kane signing.

Always rated him. Them sort of players are essential. Keep it simple & keep the teams shape. Always looked like he had time on the ball.

Our central midfield this season has been awful but even last season he would’ve done a job alongside Mowatt.

I always remember Mowatt saying Dougall was the best midfield partner he’d had.

So annoying that we released him & have spent so much money on Kane & Benson.
