Warrington beat full time outfit South Shields on penalties in the other semi final. That would be a great game to go to. Would love to see Scarborough move up the leagues. They would be in national league north next season playing former league teams like Boston, York and Darlington.
They are doing really well, pleased to see. It is such a shame that the old Scarborough FC packed in .... and the site is now occupied by Lidl. There are so many memories of their rise from non league to the 4th division and FA cup games. Hope Athletic can do something similar. The day BFC played in a friendly there and everybody got covered in swarms of tiny black flies ... even on the beach !
Me and brother went to that for a night out after. We borrowed a tent and camped at Scalby Manor site(?) We got pissed before we put the tent up. Tried to do it when we got back. There were no tent pegs in the bag just a couple of wooden clothes pegs. We did our best but it didn't last the night so ended up just kipping on the cliff tops til sober enough to drive home. Great memories which has got me thinking of a fresh thread to build up some fanzine pages for next season.
I watched the old Scarborough play a pre season friendly against League Champions Derby County back in the very early seventies. Terry Hennessy, Roy Macfarland, Kevin Hector, jumpers for goalposts. Marvellous.
Agreed. It was brilliant when in 2004 they only lost 1-0 to Chelsea at home in the cup. Glad to be able to watch it on TV. It's sad going past that Lidl on the way in to town, so I imagine it's still difficult for their fans to see. I suspect many of them have never shopped there because it's a reminder. It would be good to have a friendly there sometime. Couple of days away on the coast, but not staying at the Grand Hotel....
Going back to the 1986/7 season a friend of the family knew the then Scarborough chairman Barry Adamson. They were chatting pre-season and Barry said to lump on Scarborough for the title (they were 100-1 to win the league) as they had a new manager in who was different class ..... Neil Warnock. The bet was not placed and Scarborough did indeed win the title. I was there for the final home game against Weymouth as they celebrated automatic promotion to the Football League, the first team to benefit from this. The sad part to this story is that Barry died part way through the season. He was only in his mid 40s.
Played them in the League Cup shortly after over 2 legs as well. Remember seeing Super John, Eric and the team coming out of the Crown hotel. Me and family gave a resounding 'you reds!' Used to love going to the McCain stadium. Remember me and a pal went over when we could drive for a pre-season friendly just before they went under (circa 2005). No camp sites in Scarborough would take us (not believing two 18 year olds from Barnsley were in Scarborough to watch Scarborough in a pre-season friendly and not for a royal **** up). So we had to camp at Muston Grange in Filey. Good times

The final will be free on YouTube tomorrow for those interested: https://www.thescarboroughnews.co.u...al-to-be-streamed-live-free-of-charge-3676671
