I understand your sentiments SD, but if you did that you'd lose a lot of supporters....(even more than this lot are doing)

 

It's the greed of everyone that is involved in the ground issue that is suffocating the club.

Are we going to have a miracle and PMG NCC sell to someone with the money to pay them for the footballing side and the Cryne's and Council for the real estate and promise that the land will only ever be used for leisure purposes?

I doubt it.

 

We could just buy the ground and do it up. I wouldn’t trust the current owners with it though so hope that only happens when they’ve gone.

I look at it this way, if there is a positive change and evidence of a step forward in everything that in the last few years has stepped backwards, then i would be optimistic. However i dont hold much faith as all i have seen is it get worse. A few (only a few) examples:-

- Battles at boardroom on ownership
- Trust with council on ground
- Safety protocols and plans clearly in place along with mitigation
- Improved car park facilities
- Purchasing and using tickets ST, Game day etc
- Social events attached to game day catering for a wide range of fans (Social club?)
- Scoreboard - issue free
- Game day experience makes me stay longer and arrive earlier (Not just because its hard to park or get through ticketing)
- People confident they will have their seat in stand they chose
....... I havent got to on field yet......
- Signing young hungry talent who make the team better
- Sign experience who make the team better
- Retain and manage contracts on players we want to keep or sell
- A plan that operates with on field success at its core
- Selling on players selectively to keep club funded (ROI)
- Trust and empowerment of coaching staff to assemble and deliver a competitive team - no bboard interference (or hire a 'head of football')
- Build trust and a bond with fans. Not just periodic fan community engagements but the fans, all fans. Communicate and embrace inputs.
- Hire a coach that inspires, motivates and has knowledge and experience of what we want to achieve on the field.
- Have a team who can succeed out of league 1 to then enable us to compete every season in the championship - continious improvement.
- Have a team who cares and gives the fans something to get behind
- Build a better reputation as a club with collaboration and trust (Too many other club tensions)
- Develop the ground infrastructure to make it welcoming and attractive, especially for the GenZ generation who arent like us oldies who get emotional about nostaligia

The ability to purchase the stadium was in the control of the 80% owners, and they chose to relinquish the option. With hindsight, it looks like this was a good thing but it doesn't preclude a similar arrangement being made with any other incoming owners of BFC in future. There's no evidence of there being a lack of desire to sell the ground from either the Crynes or the council, as the option wouldn't have existed without it. This current position arises from a decision not to buy it, rather than one not to sell it.

 

I'd say we are in a miles worse positing than Wednesday were in last year.. Still can't see us signing any experienced players for a start. I see no green shoots (yet) that suggests anything other than another struggle and a slog next season.
An experienced coach and signings would brighten my view, but I honestly just can't see it happening.

Have to agree. The closeness to the town & bus train station help with our support, as well as the emotional connection with our ground. It may work for the bigger clubs, but could be a massive own goal. We only have one stand that needs work. The rest of it is about actually creating a "match day experience". Something that is beyond the numbskulls in charge at the moment. It was bad before they took over, it is diabolical now.

 

You can count on the fingers of one of Mickey Mouse's hands the number of clubs who own there own ground
and that includes premier league clubs and for clubs abroad its practically unheard of

Most are held by investment groups and are freeholds, or council's own them or multiple shareholders own them
As another person said Chelsea which is the subject of a auction don't own the ground or the naming rights @Chelsea FC for that matter.
No team can call themselves Chelsea FC that don't play at Stanford Bridge.

I would argue the complete opposite that owning the ground is a noose around your neck for multiple reasons.
and would make Barnsley FC just about impossible to sell as the selling price would be double or more ?.

They had no intrest in buying the ground until a third party wanted to buy it
then out of nowhere they said had the money in the bank to buy the ground.
then after they decided they didn't want it.
not that they didn't really have the money or had no intention to buy it obviously

that if they had bought the ground etc they were going to spend "millions" improving it.

i don't believe they had any intention of buying the ground.
and anyone who believes they were going to spend millions doing it up needs help to be perfectly honest

They are involved in 7/ 8 clubs owning some of them over 4 /5 years
and they have spent err nothing doing any of them up
some would say the exact opposite happens.

and the promised capital injections ,sponsors on standby , multiple income streams, etc
oddly never happen.
