We've just been relegated and they're putting out nonsense like that for what, a couple of grand? **** this. That's made my decision about whether to spend any money next season.
In their defence it will be a contractual tweet dictated by the EFL and not something the club have a say in. Is it one of those where all the football league clubs post on the same day?
TBH that looks more likely to be a marketing deal that Cazoo have made with the EFL than it is Barnsley FC. I’d assume a contract that features something like “X number of social posts across X number of EFL member social accounts” I’m sure someone from the club marketing team could clarify.
I know that's the case when I really think about it, but they should probably consider how it might end up looking when they sign the contract. Nothing from Derby County or Reading, so it isn't a league-wide thing.
The club don’t sign the contract though. The EFL do and as members they have to adhere to the contract. I get it mate. The replies to other clubs doing the same say similar, but nothing any of the clubs can do about it really unless they see it as a genuine complaint.
But again, nothing from Derby or Reading that I can see (and for obvious reasons they were the first that I checked, along with Peterborough - who to be fair did also tweet it). So it can't be an EFL thing, it's something that we've specifically signed up to. Probably seemed like a good idea at the time. It's desperately unfair, but this was pretty much the first tweet I saw when idly checking things out after I'd finished work. It's just another nail in the coffin.
Birmingham City didn't tweet it either, which is a bit of a shame as I speak to their fans regularly and they're almost as despondent as us - I was looking forward to those replies!
Have you searched the first line of this one? Everyone from Fulham to AFC Wimbledon to kick off a two week promo. I obviously don’t know for certain but don’t think the club sign up.
Well in that case I think that under the circumstances the club should have exploited whatever loophole allowed Reading, Derby County and Birmingham City to avoid it. Very fair - agreed!
If it’s a two week promo the tweets might me spread over that time amongst the clubs. We’ll have to wait and see if they post anything over the next fortnight.
I think it’s a case of different adverts being spread out over time. Imagine the contract with the EFL for the sponsor is ‘x amount of tweets’ or ‘x amount of clubs’. Example with Birmingham is this one which I never saw us post on the same day. They also tweeted about Cazoo.
I can think of lots of reasons why someone might choose to either renew or not renew. This tweet is not even remotely on the list.
Many things to be angry about but this isn’t one of them (even if I find the Toryesque tweets irritating) it’s clear all EFL clubs are forced to do it.
Typed about 4 or 5 different replies out to this but couldn’t manage one that didn’t sound condescending, so never mind.
