https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/election/2022/england/mayors/E47000002 Put aside our differences on who we think should be mayor, or even whether we should have one, what can be done to increase turnout?
Good showing by the Yorkshire Party. The mayoral position is unnecessary and unwanted. £79,000 a year for a part time job that was basically created to create division in the One Yorkshire approach most councils and voters support.
I actually met him handing leaflets out before an evening match, and to be fair, he seemed a really decent bloke (in my 20 second conversation).
I'm not arsed about turnout. If people don't know what they're voting for and don't know enough to care either way, it's fine that their voice isn't heard. It'd be like me wading into a debate on avant garde modernism in Timbuktu. My opinion rightly would be disregarded.
Simon is a very nice man, originally from Staincross I believe. I met him through college, where he came to talk to business students. He has some very progressive ideas which he applied to his own business. He has written a book called Marx4Capitalism,given TED talks, available on YouTube. Interesting and engaging man,I believe he is now Chairman of the club 's Community Trust. He would be a excellent addition to the club board or even CEO. He would have made a good mayor too,in my opinion but no one outside the 2 main parties ever get these jobs.
I'll look him up. I got the impression he was further to the right than me, hence didn't get my vote. Also, the publicity about public transport in his piece in the campaign is already available but at least he was talking about local issues unlike some parties/candidates.
I think a lot of people dislike the two main parties & think a vote for anyone else is a waste of time. Brexit is still a decisive issue. A lot of people who would’ve gone back to the Labour Party due to how bad the Tories are won’t because they perceived them to have backed remain. A lot on the left won’t vote Starmer due to his lies to get elected & his decision making since becoming Labour leader. Some will vote Green & independents but most can’t be bothered Essentially leaves centrist remainers voting Labour & Tory leavers who don’t give a damn about Boris’ shenanigans because they’re brainwashed / generally better off under the Tories. And it leaves a lot of disillusioned voters who don’t support either. I know not everyone falls into them categories but plenty do
It’s the 18-30 group, we simply don’t care. Nothing changes regardless of which party gets in, no one cares about our town whether they wear red or blue. Getting young people to vote is tough. This is the second time in a row I’ve not voted, what’s the point? Seriously? There isn’t one. piss in the same pot, lotnum.
In what way ? OK, this is national not local, but don't you think that its important we don't have a prime minister that intentionally lies and does everything in his power to remain in power, whatever the cost? Do you think it's acceptable that we have the first PM in history who literally hid from being interviewed prior to the general election? Locally, there are some good and well meaning people (from all parties) who want their best for the town. If the all piss from the same pot, have you looked into trying to become a elected so you could make that change and not piss from the same pot or get a better understanding of how the process works? Might be a good idea to go to public meetings and see things in action.
That's not true though, Labour and Conservative (and LibDems/Greens) have values which are understood nationally. Who are the independents, what do they represent? Of the four parties named, we all know what they broadly represent. A newcomer is just that, and just because some independents have party name (such as Yorkshire Party), they still effectively independent.
Elected Mayors, elected Crime Commissioners, get rid, waste of money and we shouldn't have politically biased police.
Still don't get that thought, just because a 'party' is good in one area doesn't mean the local rep is in another. Save the party political stuff for General elections
Who are the 57k who voted Tory ? Beggars belief anyone stands by them after last few years, yes I know it’s not a general election
Thought this was going to be a thread about the % of BFC season ticket holders expected to renew. 26% seems about right.
