I just don’t understand this obsession with throwing flares around indiscriminately in a crowded area. The risk of injury is huge yet some people just laugh it off and say it adds to the “atmosphere “. Well I suppose it does- it adds choking fumes to your lungs if you’re near it AT BEST. At worst it could inflict serious burns to innocent people. How the hell do these things get in the grounds?

I posted this in the thread last week but this gives me absolutely no confidence of the stewards ensuring our safety at all. There was all the guff about increased security due to incidents at other events (e.g. the Ariana concert) but it’s all just talk.

I've been to 57 football grounds, and I've never been dragged out by neck. Presumably because I've never felt the need to act like a f'cking c'unt.

The only person I’ve ever seen wearing yellow trousers is Michael Portillo. Is he part of Athersley Reds?

I'll stand corrected as I was at the other end of the stand and couldn't see the event. But one fan i spoke to said the lad didn't go easily when 1st approached.
Then there was the coppers helmet being passed around to the amusement of others. ( saw that, bit disrespectful maybe. But thought it was harmless fun, and lasted a while, I thought the bobbies must be enjoying it too) And it took a steward (I think) to go and retrieve it

I was in the concourse next to the door they took him through. Was 5-10 yards away having a bottle coz couldn't summon up the courage to watch the match.

Must have been 12-15 stewards and police carrying him face down to eject him. Hannibal Lector only had 2 guarding him (I know that didn't end well like.) I asked his mate who wanted to go out and check on him, I told him not to as he wouldn't get back in, what had gone on. He did tell me and that he was going to be arrested. Also his other mate was already arrested for the incident. Never saw the lad again (dressed as Mario? Luigi? I don't do games).

That's just not true is it. They have burned people and it would be so easy to blind someone too

Also causes issues for asthmatics and given the number of crowd medical incidents with breathing issues post covid, it's just not big or clever to be indiscriminately chucking a smokey fire stick around really.

Go and research it on the net, then come back on here and post that flares are not dangerous nor could they burn nor blind.

    We'll take it from there.

To settle this argument, I have just gone in the garden, lit a flare and thrown it in my wife’s face.
I can confirm that she is now both blind and burnt.
She’s going to struggle doing dinner, now, mind.

That is a complete myth. They can and do cause burns - and have blinded people.

The fact they are technically smoke bombs and not ‘flares’ does not mean they don’t have dangers. The right type manufactured properly are relatively ‘safe’ (I’m not sure someone with something like acute asthma or copd would agree), but I’m not sure I trust the delightful folk that set them off at football grounds to purchase good quality approved stuff…
