There was an article i read earlier where a survey found 2m have gone without food for a whole day. While 7.3m are estimated to have cut back on food.

It's frightening. The money the government have wasted on nonsense and fraud, and we have such little support or intervention to help those in most need.

We donate food weekly to the local food bank (a woman on our street combines all the donations and runs them up every week) and each week she passes on what the food bank are requesting. Until this week gone, for around 6 weeks they had been requesting things that didn't require heating or refrigeration. Anything that required hot water was urged against, but not off limits. So we've complied and typically, we've been supplying sanitary products (especially for women) which are rarely donated seemingly. Last week, because the number of people using the food bank have soared, they requested anything at all.

The last few weeks we've doubled what we donate, but the worrying thing is as this crisis bites more, as inflation runs away with itself and if the government continue to focus support in such a loose tokenist manner, demand for food banks will increase, while supply from the public will diminish as affordability becomes a huge issue.

If anyone can help or support a food bank with even a few pounds a week, please try and do it.

Edit: And just as an aside, there was also an article today highlighting Barclays have avoided having to pay £2bn in tax. Something is really very badly wrong.

I try to donate when we remember (its easier in Morrisons as they have stuff in the doorway bagged up ready), but often we try to donate stuff like sanitary products, soap/shower gel, etc and will probably start with pet food too in the next few weeks.

I'll set up a dd to the local food bank when I start my new job next month. Its the least I can do.

Imagine being as rich as Elon Musk and instead of spending $43 billion on making the world a better place you spend it on owning a free to use social media platform.

I walked other day from Manx to Morrisons. Then nipped into town centre. Called at Yorkshire Bank. Through town centre then thro Alhambra and back to pub. I got asked 7 times for change and counted 12 folk who I presume were all homeless. I've got one who calls in cafe on a Friday for a free feed to get him thro the weekend. He sleeps on Sheff Rd or outside the old Argos usually in a tent but some **** set it on fire so I got him a new one. Proper nice blowk who's just fallen on bad times for various reasons.

God on yer mate , went to York and never seen as many begging but my problem is who's genuine. Usually offer to buy them a drink un sarnie but some want only money, won't give to them but gladly buy something to eat or drink. I give to the food bank weekly but try and get more stuff for kids. Wife gets women's stuff for Women obviously.

Aye other week I offered him a tinnie. He said he didn't drink. Gave him my deodorant some toothpaste and a few bits I'd got here. Always polite and has offered to pay a couple of times. Gave him some bus fare other week for a dayrider as he'd got an appointment in Sheff and came to charge his phone.

Saw it myself last Sunday, couldn't believe the size of the queue. I was in tears, it was truly heartbreaking. Like you I thought how did it ever come to this. So sad.

I tend to get the bogof offers and put the spares in, particularly for tins. My worry is for those that are too for want of a better word "proud" to access food banks and soup kitchens. As the weather worsens I think we're going to see a rise in hypothermia and serious asthma/bronchitis cases.

Actually, thinking about fuel costs, is there any scheme whereby you can donate for electric/gas cards that anyone knows of?
