OT Music how had I never heard of Nightwish?

    Got a random pop up in my youtube channel for a group called Nightwish.

    Id never heard of them but clicked on the link and found a Finnish Symphonic Metal band who are superb. Seems they have been around for 25 years so cant understand why its the first time I encountered them. Maybe its just me or maybe they just aren't well known in the UK - though they did sell out Wembley Arena a few years ago

    Lead singer since 2012 is a Dutch lass called Floor Jansen - Id never hear of her either until the weekend and to say she has an amazing voice and stage presence is as much of an understatement as saying Ronnie Glavin was a decent football player. I checked their history a bit, original lead singer also excellent but different, second singer merely very good but Floor is something else.

    If you never heard of them you might want to check them out - dont let the fact they are a metal band put you off they arent death metal.

    Doubtless some of you have been listening for years but I've completely missed them.

    They did a Set at a Metal festival in Wacken Germany just after Floor joined them -I d never heard of that either here is a taster - though their whole show is worth a watch and it doesn't even include 2 of their best epic tracks either just this one.


    ps @JLWBigLil even if the music isnt your style I think Floor is your type of gal

    Got a 6 month free trial on Apple music so working through them now all excellent so far but I think they are probably a band thats even better live

    Now there is a band and singer I have heard of and pretty good too - I first encountered Lzzy Hale singing Shatter me in collaboration with Lindsey Stirling and then checked out some of her other stuff

    Very good seen them with Within Temptation who are tremendous live , first saw them at Metalway in Jerez we’d gone to see Saxon, Crucified Barbara we’re quite good as well
