I’m done, they’ve forced a shortlist of 2 people not from Wakefield for selection to be the upcoming candidate, that’s despite rules which say there should be a 5 person panel including 3 from the local party to shortlist candidates. 3 prominent local councillors including the deputy council leader didn’t even make the long list. As a result the whole of the Wakefield constituency Labour executive have reigned on mass tonight.
They have been presented with an open goal, a chance to take back a Labour seat thanks to the disgusting behaviour of the convicted child molesting Tory MP, and the choose to try and parachute in someone from outside the area which local people complained about long and vociferously since David Hinchliffe retired.

 

Just like they.did in Barnsley !

Something stinks about the Labour party right now. And before anyone even mentions the T word, I would never, ever vote for those locusts, but that doesn't make Labour the party to vote for by default.

 

The candidate that people seemed to want has a history of supporting Jeremy Corbyn after he lost the whip snd some very dubious comments on antisemitism.

Sfter two years of trying to move the party away from where it was I'm not sure a candidate with those ideas would have been a good idea.

The current PM is a criminal. He’s been done for breaking the law, in office. Yet he’s still there. Sad thing is, if I was listing the horrific stuff he and his government have done, I’d be here all night and forget loads of examples. The opposition leader is now under police investigation too. Majority of them are rich beyond any of our wildest dreams. And they make life so hard for the common man.

Why the f*** are we all putting up with it? That Sunak character is pure evil. Patel? Even worse. A cabal of cun[$.

I’ll sign off by admitting I voted Labour the other day. Because I’m not wasting a vote, despite the futility of it all. And I happen to know the lady I voted for. She’s just a genuine lass from our village who I see on dog walks, at church and wherever.

Labour (even this version) over Tory all day and thrice on Sunday.

But yeah. Politics and the majority of those within it are a disgrace to society. Self serving f***s.

 

The Labour Party has been infiltrated by a pro-establishment cohort of shadow Tories. Their whole game is to act as a 'harmless' alternative to the blue Tories when they fall out of favour with the public. Starmer made 10 pledges to take power. All broken.

There is a reason the whole establishment demonised Corbyn - he was the only realistic shot we had at actually challenging them. But he had wonky glasses and tried to make peace with scary people in Northern Ireland and the Middle East, so the pickpockets and societal vandals who literally hate our guts were the obvious choice to lead us instead.

Not that that's really the fault of the electorate; the whole system is designed to have us thinking that way.

 

Definitely not a wasted vote. I tend to largely ignore the parties in local elections, and vote for the person. I know of a lot of Labour councillors who are equally dissatisfied at the moment who I'd vote for in a heartbeat.

 

I think you should be careful aligning Corbyn with antisemitism, because he quite clearly isn't antisemitic.

 

Completely agree. I despair that people still want to vote Tory. Every poll that comes up they’re still getting 30-35%. They should be getting destroyed but literally the only reason to vote Labour at the minute is ‘they can’t be any worse than the Tories’.

 

I appreciate that a lot was made of very little in order to vilify him. But he quite clearly is far from perfect re antisemitism amongst a host of other issues.

And I’m a million miles from happy with the current state of the party, but I’m even less happy with the cult of Corbyn still actively trying to destroy the party.

It’s politics; the guy lost 2 elections, he should only be discussed in a historical context but many of his supporters just won’t let it go.

Yes I voted for him, and supported him as leader and thought his domestic policies were exactly what the country needed (would rather have him than Starmer). But his foreign policy and personality also meant I’d happily have slapped him and told him to grow up too.

Well the person I’d have voted to be selected is a local councillor called Michael Graham who works tirelessly for the local community, but I will never get the chance because HQ have ignored him. I’m guessing because he’s not been vetted by whoever to make sure he’s not too left wing and only holds the views as required by Starmer.

If the majority of the people of Wakefield still think Brexit is a good idea; then the choice of Labour candidate is the least of their problems.

 

Having had to walk it, its 2 hours at least with 20 Silk Cut a day lungs and a well brisk stride.

And this is exactly the attitude that will continue to alienate leave voting areas. I voted remain but whether people like it or not it’s still the most divisive issue in the country & they need to confront it. Nearly every seat that changed hands in the last election voted leave.

I disagree with it completely but more people are interested in Brexit than any cost of living issue or illegal parties. It’s just the reality of the situation. They can’t just ignore these people & expect them to vote for them or they’ll get battered again.

Why is it still important? What is there still to be concerned about (from a leaver perspective)?

im sorry but it’s only still an issue because the media want the thick to believe it’s important.

Simple.

The last election was basically a referendum 2 for all the leave voting areas, people who would previously have never voted Tory did so to ‘get Brexit done’. Every voting intention poll over the last year has proved that most of those people have turned back.

Only angry Brexiteers (fck knows why they’re still angry) still think Brexit is an issue for Labour.
