She appears to be an impressive young lady who has overcome huge challenges in her life. She isnt afraid to dream and she has the foresight and belief to make that dream come true. I do wonder what in the world is she doing at little old Barnsley.

Just had a look at the Ted talk and a few other bits on YouTube. As capable as she no doubt is, I have to ask what she’s expected to bring to the table. I’m struggling to see how much of that Ted Talk translates to the job of being a Director at Barnsley Football Club. I’m struggling to see much beyond brand & retail presence in her toolkit, which for me is way down on the list of priorities. We’ll see, but so far I’m a bit puzzled.

She'll not bring anything. She's representing a group of minority share holders. Unlike the last person who represented those people she has no delusions about what she can bring to the table. She's not the chair of the board, she's not going to take over the role of CEO and sign a crocked Belgian on huge wages who has no interest in playing football. Her only reason for being here is to to protect the investment of those she represents and stop idiots with egos above their ability taking on the role of CEO and paying huge wages to Belgians who have no interest in playing football.

The worst that will happen is she'll have no interest in this venture at all and do nothing other than keep voting for those who have the best interests of Barnsley FC at heart, which translates as voting for people who are the most likely to make decisions that increase the value of the investment of the people she represents.

The best that can happen is she'll decide to take in a game, sit in the decrepit but wonderful West Stand, fall in love with the club, go get a coffee and visit the club shop then sit in a board meeting and say, "I think we can do a lot better than this."

All seems a bit pointless if that is the case. I personally expect a Director to set direction, and be at least a little bit strategic. I want to know who this shadowy cabal of investors are.

Having spoken to her very, very briefly to welcome her to the club, she’s super excited to be joining Barnsley, will be working very closely with Jean Cryne to help us achieve our goals, and is interested in what we do in terms of community projects.

I’m sure much more context will be given in a couple of weeks when the press and fans get to speak to whichever board members are available.

Totally agree even the worst case scenario is a massive improvement to before.

Yeah was a bit out of context reading back. Wasn’t directed at you by the way.

They own less than 30% of the club. Prior to Patrick Cryne taking over the shares were in the hands of hundreds if not thousands of people. Did we need to know the identity of everyone of those? And what did owners of hospital shops, fruit and veg distributors and VW dealerships offer the club? What did the owner of an IT firm whose directors spent the majority of their time in court offer the club?

Depends how you look at it. Having a board of directors with completely different backgrounds is a positive, as that way you’ve got different skills and experiences coming to the table for the variety of problems, challenges and opportunities that arise.

The very best ideas often come from taking learnings from other industries and sectors, and football (or sport in general) often gets caught in not thinking or looking outside of the box. Supporters don’t like change, or things being done differently, but at times that’s what is needed to grow a little bit quicker than your competitors.

Prior to Patrick Cryne was over 20 years ago. I have very different questions now than I did then.

The worst that will happen is she'll have no interest in this venture at all and do nothing other than try to maximise the returns of those whom she represents, and seek to influence others regarding matters of a footballing nature when she will know practically nothing about such matters.

Still, she comes with a blank canvas to paint - let's see.

Like the assumption that any group of people you don’t know the identity of are a ‘shadowy cabal’?

In your shoes, I’d be asking myself some questions

That was my response to Jay’s view on what her role would be though. I’d like to think her role will be more than how he described it. I certainly hope it is. I’m just not sure where I see the fit, based on her background. Obviously I hope she’s a breath of fresh air. But based on what I’ve seen and heard so far, doesn’t scream ‘English football league director’ material. We’ll see.

We’ve no idea what her role will be. How often do the board of directors meet as a collective? Once a month? I don’t know the answer by the way. The club will continue to be run by Khaled and Rob won’t it? As it should be, with the team underneath pedalling the ideas.

So at that point she’s just a voice giving a response to updates on performance and strategy, and not every metric and strategy involves the football side of things. From a commercial perspective I imagine she’ll bring a totally different view and skill set.

I tend to find that anyone who’s intelligent, good at what they do, and experienced in the world of senior meetings and strategy, is useful regardless of the industry you’re talking about. I can’t personally vouch for anyone on our board, but the lack of football or UK background doesn’t worry me given it isn’t a board made up of six people the same.

Seems as she's worked with Khloe Kardashian in the past and she's got 242 million followers on Instagram see if she will post up a photo wearing our new home shirt when it's released and we would be quids in.

I’m suggesting that the assumption that any group of people you don’t know are a ‘shady cabal’ isn’t a healthy outlook :)

Sorry Marc, just read back what I wrote and it seems antagonistic. I didn't mean to be.

The point I was trying to get across was that we don't necessarily know what someone can bring to a football club by reading their online profile or looking at their profession.

But there's nothing wrong at all with someone questioning what they may bring either and I do take your point about how, now we're older, we're more interested in things like this rather than, say, knowing the stats on all the players at the club.
