    Enjoy Tory governance then.

The issue isn't the leader or their policies, it's our electional system (FPTP) and perpetual infighting on the left. We need PR asap.

Monty Python nailed this in 1979 with the People's Front of Judea, FFS!

I'd actually vote for the Yorkshire Party - Yorkshire is bigger than many EU countries by population and area; it's the main reason the Government won't allow a One Yorkshire regional representation - it would have real muscle for the north. Alternatively I'd vote for the Greens; both options would be a wasted vote though with FPTP.

Do I believe Labour are entirely blameless when it comes to anti-semitism? No.

Are Labour orders of magnitude less racist than the Tory party whilst receiving disproportionate negative media coverage when it comes to purported racism? ******* hell yes.

For every "I'll never vote for Starmer" viewpoint I'll guarantee there's an "I'll never vote for Corbyn" one.
As long as those who purport to hate this corrupt, harmful Tory government continue to fall out among themselves then it becomes a certainty that never Starmer or never Corbyn is irrelevant and you end up with always Boris.
Unless and until people who oppose the Tories are prepared to vote strategically to get shut of them then they deserve to continue to rage in opposition refighting petty squabbles.
The choice is simple. Do you or do you not want to do whatever it takes to get the Tories out?

The biggest problem for me is our outdated FPTP system which has ment for my whole life my vote has been largely meaningless. Leaving others with the need to vote tactically and not for a candidate who represents their own viewpoints. Its rather depressing.

I understand the semantics of language yes. Starmer is proposing neither. As I said I have problem with a centre right agenda. If Starmer wants to run in that basis then he should set up a leadership election see if he gets the backing.

the only people responsible for a tory govt are those who vote for them. I can say if you don’t vote Green with me then you are enabling the tories. Your argument is valid and insipid. Look at Scotland people like you were 30 years ago that a vote for the SNP was a wasted vote. Look at them now. Even under FPTP you can make progress and change things.

i definitely won’t be conned into voting for shades of tory with vested interests in maintaining the status quo. I will be voting for hope not hate.voting for policies I believe in. No problem with others doing differently. That’s on them.

I find the most noise about Brexit still from a section of remain voters who won't accept the result, so anything that happens in the country which they see as a negative, the stock response arises of bringing brexit up regardless of any tenuous link.

On the subject about local candidates, in Darton West ward the local council elections was won by Labour when the candidate lives over in Birdwell, in fact I think only the green party candidate was from the actual ward.

    Hi MDG
I live with the consequences of the vote and accepted the result 6 years ago but I do see the effects of it,which are in the main, negative. Especially the wrecking of any deal by Mrs May, by all parties, Labour included. The refusal to leave with a trade deal and still have the benefits of the EU. Then the unconstitutional deal done by Bob Frost in Northern Ireland, which is being used by a minority to subvert the rule of law, democracy and break international treaties and raise the risk of violence and closed border crossing. He and Johnson still went ahead with it, thinking they could dictate to the rest of the world, they failed.
I and people like me are constantly attacked and criticised over the failures of Brexit, well it's got bugger all to do with me. Johnson promised the people of the UK a successful future, at the moment it's a gigantic failure, which no one will take responsibility for.
As for Darton West ward, where I live,Dickie Denton won and he lives on the Oaks Estate,Darton Road and is manager of the Village Hall. He's a Lib Dem,I didn't vote for him but expect him to do a good job for us all, like every other councillor.
If you are a politician you represent everyone not just those who voted for you. The failure of Brexit can't be blamed on those who voted remain but rather it is the government who are tasked with implementing it. It's irresponsible to suggest otherwise.

My point was, the only people I hear making noise about it certainly aren't the ones who voted to leave, quite the opposite. If you live in a democracy then that's life surely, you accept the result of a vote and move on until any such further vote. That's how the country will prosper. There is too much crap happening around the world to understand in detail where the deal needs tweaking, obviously the NI Protocol is one key issue already known but that has provision written into the deal to say it can be re-worked, so we just need to get the EU back round the table and probably the answer is signing some mutual standard agreements. It shouldn't be that hard with goodwill from both sides, that was the problem when the original deal was being done, the language from both sides was far too hostile.

I take it you mean Darton East for Mr Denton? That's good that you got a local person. In Darton West we got Sharon Howard again, living in Birdwell. Not heard a whisper from her until a week before election when she posted something showing that she had just planted a shrub. That seems to be the norm these days, I do feel quite strongly that the candidates in local council elections should live in the ward though.

the ones who voted leave are quiet because it’s been an absolute and complete disaster with every warning given slowly coming true.

    Yep.

It's basically this. Those who voted Remain have every right to be pissed off that Brexit has caused a list of problems longer than Ron Jeremy's moneymaker.

Not good enough I'm afraid. And while ever Labour continues to be Tory-lite they are hardly endearing themselves to the traditional Labour voter. They have brought it on themselves I'm afraid, and a call-to-arms to vote for them simply because the Tories need ousting isn't a good enough reason.

Well youre welcome to your opinion but get used to Boris is mine.
i'll just ask this. If you're in a delicately balanced constituency between Tory and Labour who do you vote for? If it's not Labour you're to all intents and purposes helping to elect a Tory. And it really is that simple. And if your response is along the lines of Tory lite just ask yourself if Starmer is as bad as Johnson, Patel, Rees Mogg, Gove, Sunak etc. I'm damn sure he isn't.

    Hi again MDG
I.think we probably agree on this issue but I am hyper sensitive to it being mentioned or criticism. I just find it a bit weird 6years on, it's still being talked about by right wing politicians and media corporations, as if it's still to happen. I accept that the Pandemic and inability to travel within the EU,for 2 years, could have affected people's impression of its impact. It doesn't help anyone, that we have had almost 12 years of austerity and reduction in Public services and spending and now we have yet another cost of living crisis. This government doesn't appear to be competent and seeks to deflect attention from themselves and how they are performing.
It's worrying for me (and everyone else),as someone who is 61,knew what is what like to be unemployed in the early 1980s. I have 3 young adult children and worry for them,we live in a globalised economy but live in a country that seems to be removing itself from this. Whereas there was a hope and expectation that things would get better back then,I don't sense that now.
As for local politicians, I don't know what the rules are, regarding where they live in the constituency. For MPs,they have to a home in their constituency, where they reside some of the time, this can be rented and not their main home. In the Darton Wards ( not sure why we have so many councillors), the councillors do ok,although the Lib dems, like to join in with the older locals who moan about the council for nothing.

    Absolutely:
In my life I’ve voted for Foot, Kinnock, Smith, Blair, Brown, Milliband, Corbyn and so I’ll obviously also vote Starmer.

Which of them most closely aligned to my politics at the time? Probably Smith.

Most of the rest frustrated me for various reasons, but more importantly none of them were as bad as the opposition. if you wait for the leader (of any party BTW) who represents you perfectly, you’ll never vote. If you decide not to support a party over a single issue, that’s your choice but you have to accept that you’re effectively voting for someone you agree with much less.

And this is largely a left issue. Supporters of the hard right didn’t run away from voting for Cameron or May. Tory voters who expect ‘competence’ still voted for Johnson. Because the Tories know that FPTP is the game, so they play the game as required.
