    Interesting. I've often wondered if there was some sort of large incentive to go public. For example, getting your hands on the full amount vs some sort of annuity. Don't really understand why people would go public otherwise.

    That would make no sense. 1) why would you want to be with a person who you’d rather keep poor when you could take away all their money worries, you must not like them very much and 2) how are you ever going to spend anything on yourself without them realising? Unless you mean recent, not that serious partner.

    Even putting aside the begging letters I'm not sure how great it would be long term. Obviously being isolated from any money worries would be nice, and the first 2 years would be incredible but beyond that I'm not sure. Humans have an incredible (and unavoidable) capacity for hedonic adaptation. We adjust incredibly well to major changes whether for the good or bad, and our new status quickly becomes no more or less fulfilling than our previous situation.

    Personally, I'd write off the university debts of my son, daughter & daughter-in-law. I'd ensure that our grandchildren were well looked after for life. Make certain the charities we back would get a substantial contribution. Also, I wouldn't go public.

    Id buy Conor Hourihane back. Was thinking about Stones but after seeing how much Rice turned down, doubt I'd have enough for more than a years worth of contract for stones. :D

    Definitely wouldn't go public. Would make sure I had enough to be comfortable and set the kids up and then I'd give the rest away to charity, I couldn't begin to manage having that amount of money.

    Whats not been mentioned, and given the post about the Sunday Times Rich List.... why is the lottery geared up to make one person/family so obscenely rich? £184m is ridiculous in one fell swoop. Why not have 184 people winning £1m. Or even 736 people winning £250,000 each. Surely we're better helping more attain life changing levels than one group who will get more than they know what to do with.

    The top prize is based on ticket sales. The vast majority of which would remain unsold if the jackpot was 250,000.

    The reason the national and euro millions lotteries are successful and the jackpot is so high is because the jackpot is so high.
