He was very successful at it until Rooney called him out and he lost his nerve, changed the way we played and created uncertainty. I don't believe other teams worked us out, I believe val lost his bottle.
I'm not sure how you come to that conclusion from Doug's tweet to be honest. All it looks like is that we're very much at preliminary stages, rather than it being a done deal and announced by the weekend. The fact we've approached him says we're certainly interested, and the fact he's agreed to talks seems like he's open to the idea too.
Higher like who? Hes young up and coming manager done really well at Cheltenham on a tight budget. Better than the last 2 duff coaches we have had and better than a forign coach who has no clue of the league.
Not so sure about that BMW. The tweets I were reading yesterday from Cheltenham fans when the news broke where along the lines of.. "why would he go there" and "Barnsley would be a side ways move." So I'm not seeing the high regard myself.
McCarthy, goodness me hell no...I was actually laughing at the amount of people on this forum suggesting him. Way past it and Cardiff fans couldn't wait for him to leave. Warnock wouldn't come for the simple reason he wouldn't work within our structure of a head coach and a restricted involvement on the recruitment side. I don't know why so many are against another European based coach but they would need to be in the Stendel/Val mould of being a real leader.
Can’t believe the negativity about this possible appointment from some people who are calling it underwhelming etc were Barnsley in league one with not much money it would appear a sensible appointment to me when you consider the last two coaches.
Given our financial position any compo is significant. If we really were planning to pull up the gates and go through drastic cuts, we'd only be looking for out of work head coaches (is the point I was trying to get at).
We are a small West Riding club, with low crowds and a very low budget, especially in the Championship. Some might say that Michael Duff could do a lot better than us.
They have £50 million set aside in cash reserves to repay the first loan. It may have been a condition of the loan or they a excellent Financial director.
some of the expectations baffle me. we're a League 1 Club. why do people think we would be able to attract anyone above League 1 standard?
