He's received numerous death threats while at celtic and also playing for Norther Ireland - he had to quit playing for them because of the death threats, he was attacked by two students on a night out and was beaten unconscious by two men as he left a pub, was the victim of road rage on the M8, each time his assailants were jailed. If this happened to a gay person, or immigrant there would be outrage but we seem to have this widespread notion that he somehow has brought it on himself.

Great post Wakeyred - I was going to post something similar. People are very quick to judge Neil Lennon without knowing the details.

Isn't Catholicism an old branch of Christianity, or did I miss a memo?

    Edited in:
For clarity I don't want him as manager, just wondered which particular Cristian(sic) values the Crynes had that a Catholic wouldn't uphold.

That would be an ecumenical matter.

Nahh. Don't want Lennon anywhere near the job. Plays one dimensional with no obvious plan b. At least want someone with a plan A, plan b and c. Look at his last year at Celtic, they got figured out early and went on to have a shocker in the league.

He's a lightening rod for the loss of entitlement the ruling protestant class has felt, certainly in Scotland and N.Ireland since working class Catholics educated themselves out of subservience. Unfortunately 400 years of anti-Catholic propaganda means that even people today who reject all forms of religion can still exhibit these anti-Catholic tropes - i.e that its somehow separate from Christianity, when all the protestant sects broke off from the original Christian religion which was Catholicism.
Lennon's biggest problem is that he doesn't take a step back, doesn't roll over, doesn't keep quiet.

Not been hit with the lucky stick yet then. Might need a four leaf clover.

I'm presuming he signed a sponsorship deal with Jiffir Condoms.
