Maybe they've been offered reduced terms, or been informed they'll be back up. There's no guarantee they'll accept.
Let’s be real, Helik, Styles, & Collins will attract attention & I expect bids coming in soon. Palmer makes sense as we would lose him for nothing otherwise, & be interesting to see if the manager can get something out of him, the talent is there, just not the application. I’m happy we’ve offered Vic a contract, one of our standouts last season in effort alone. That means something when we’re in this kind of state as a club. The main concern is players like Cole, Benson, Leya Iseka, Schmidt etc all not good enough, but still under contract. Hopefully they are all on the transfer list at discounted prices of course.
As Palmer is under 24, if we offer him a deal and he signs elsewhere, then we'll be entitled to a bit of compensation. Similar to what we initially tried to do with George Williams before we agreed to let him walk away.. If Palmers (previous) contract had a relegation wage reduction in it, then I assume we only had to match that to (potentially) trigger any compensation. As Vic is over 24 we will not be entitled to any compensation so I am at a loss as to why we have offered him a new deal, especially after yesterdays comments regarding Bremang and the fact that we already have quite a few forwards at the club.
Dropping down leagues will help. It didn't help last time Loko did it. 19/20 season. 1300 plus minutes in l1 and l2. 1 goal. Ask Bristol Rovers and Cambridge fans if he would get into there 22s. I'd imagine to a man they'd laugh at you.
He’s not the same player he was when he was at those teams. 3/4 years is a long time when you’re 20 years old. He’s not world beater, and not someone you want starting 40 games a season for you, but you don’t drop to our level and have four Cauley Woodrow’s or Carlton Morris’ in your squad. He’s never let us down with his effort - something that can’t be said for some of the players people will be upset about losing this Summer. Bigger picture perspective needed.
Mind boggles sometimes. ‘Can’t believe Cole is on the retained list’. Seen that about ten times already.
Weird isn't it. As I said elsewhere on Social Media, being under contract doesn't mean we won't listen to offers or be actively trying to move a player on and the retained list is ONLY about those with contracts ending not who will be in our plans next season
He's not improved that much. I remember watching him when he was on trial and he isn't much different to then and that must be 5 years ago. First Touch and Finishings are awful and always was. At first team level, he can't win the ball at above head height as he could. I remember him coming on at Middlesborough and people were laughing around me.
Maybe they're just going to give the new guy the chance to decide if we've got anything he can work with before we go shopping.
He’s improved ten fold. From a low base. For every Middlesbrough game laughing here’s other games where he’s given Championship defenders nightmares. He knows the drill, puts his all in, and looks way less lost on a football pitch than when he first use to get cameo appearances. He’s a better asset than Devante Cole, but even he might prove useful in the right system at League One.
I’m just surprised they’ve never offered you a position on the staff at Oakwell. Can’t be many with your level of insight.
The way I see it is whilst the retained list holds on to most players some of which have fallen foul with certain elements of the fan base. Those that are accused of shirking and not fit to wear the shirt haven't become bad footballers over night. Before you become judge jury and hangman let's not forget last season they played under two of the worse coaches to grace Oakwell in my opinion. If reports which we know to be true from certain admissions then is there any wonder we were poor and we harvested what was sown re lack of training, tactics, game play....we all witnessed mis management on a grand scale both on and off the field of play ...it stood out like a badly bruised thumb, the general lack of ideas and game management from both coaches who were incharge The likes of Moon , Benson could do with a stint out on loan just to give them regular game time. I expect that out of the retained list all will be for sale given the right offer being made. Personally I'd settle for an older head at centre half and the same in the midfield holding position being brought in ...depending on the striker situation remaining as it is..create a solid spine and fill the team with young uns who will run all day. The scapegoating of individual players needs to stop..it does no one any good, at the end of the day the coaches we employed were the real reason why our style of play was bad and that rubbed off big time onto the players...off the field the buck will always stop at Conways involvement
Came on here after reading similar on social media. So frustrating how poorly informed many of our fans are (which is fine) but then go on to about about how poor it is ect.
The retained list doesn’t really involve the new guy though. It was only ever going to give us insight in to the future of four first team squad players. I honestly think people were expecting something very different to what a retained list is. Which explains why people were clamouring for it to be announced. Those people will definitely feel underwhelmed today for sure.
Surely you cannot offer contracts on effort alone otherwise I might get a contract , not a very good player but I will put a shift in , Victor is to football what Putin is to world peace , he has to go , we cannot progress as a club by wasting money on players who bring nothing to the squad , the lad is likeable but has not improved , a fresh start might give his career a boost but we should not be a charity & sentiment should influence common sense , I find it strange that we release Miller who has scored more goals this season than Victor has in his career , I am already baffled by todays decisions
I'm not against Adebyoyejo being an 'option' for us in League One. He has the physicality that the majority of our other forwards lack and he's a bit of a nuisance for defenders. Shame his close control and first touch are absolutely woeful - it let's him down no end. No doubt we'll see some outgoings, but we've got a fair list of forwards with Schmidt, Thomas and the unknown Aitchison due back from loan.
