Until the working class stand up for themselves. And I mean everyone. We're fxxked. That is to join unions and fight.

Lots of companies/businesses (not all) use threats as most are aware. Threats drive down wages. Take it or leave, Well, if everyone left they'd have no bleeding business.

Businesses have to compete i get that. And complain if they increase wages they can't survive. The national minimum wage should be over and above the living wage. (Imagine living in a prosperous country where A LIVING wage is seen as acceptable "be grateful you serfs".) and none of this age related s4it (Slave labour)
The hardest working (physically) among us are generally the lowest paid. So I say go for whatever you need to do, to stop the rot.

For those who complain about unions. I sometimes get that. (The very odd rep will sometimes take his own circumstances into his decision making. One even had the audacity to say I can't afford to strike cos I'm having to pay for my young un to go to university. wtf. he shouldn't be doing the role if that's the case) But the members are the union. Some Individual stewards may be weak. It's up to the members to pressure the stewards into fighting for them.
Some individual members are only concerned about themselves and not the collective. I have come across that on more than one occasion and it's very hard to deal with sometimes. I have had several run ins with some of those that represent their members also.
What I will say is, the unions. Over the last few years And more so recently. are increasing memberships at an astonishing rate. The one I represented within the company have nearly doubled their membership figures in the last 12 months or so.

Paul you are preaching to the converted. I really worry that the generation below us are so used to living off benefits the have no idea what work is like and even less idea of what working people are worth. I hope I'm wrong but I think we're in for some hard coal. The press is so manipulated people not of our ilk have no concept of how we are being worked. They believe everything written and wear eggs under the cap. Our area is being undermined and unfortunately the youngsters below us can't see what is happening. I'm glad I'm on the way out and not on the way in but future generations will surely rise against this vile government once they realise they are being pillocked from pillow to post.

    Spot on mate.
I retired last month if you aren't aware. But still fighting the company over pension issues.
I'm guessing you'll have renewed your ST. and hope to see you next season.
Btw I'm taking more of an interest in Fev this season . Seen a few games on tv or in person. Saw leaky at the last game. Can't remember if you took interest. The fans and the club definitely deserve promotion if it comes to em .

Don't worry, we're really not and if you think we are then it might be you who needs to be more sceptical of what the press are telling you.

My mates bought his house at 40 years old and was thinking about being a postman as a steady number didn't want anything serious and the walking would keep him fit.
He said wages was about £350 p/w ( I don't know) and that would suit him for his lifestyle, but reading some stuff on here it sounds a bit chaos and badly run.
Could I ask anyone in the know if I should recommend him to apply for it or should he stay well clear, thanks. Hope you can get a decent pay rise aswell, goodluck.

This is breathtakingly off-base. Maybe you should stop believing 'everything written' yourself, and look up what benefits are actually available. Even 40 hours per week of the real living wage isn't anywhere near enough to rent a flat of your own in most major cities. Imagine that - you graft full time at a wage more than the government claims you need, and that still isn't enough to get you a proper place which you can call your own. When was the last time you worked full time just so you could afford to share a house or flat with three or four other adults?

The 'youngsters' below you vote overwhelmingly to fix this every single time. It might not be down to you personally, but the stats make it clear that it's your generation who want to keep things as they are.

A friend of mine was thinking of joining Royal Mail a few weeks back. Based on my experience up to 2017 and the warnings of some friends still in the job I told her to steer well clear.
In theory it's a nice job. In practice it's now even more shambolic than when I was last there. It's a shame.
oh and as for the walking keeping you fit...cardiovascular wise I guess it does but the endless miles combined with swivelling in and out of vans if you drive one will eventually do serious damage to knees and hips.

Nigh on 40 years for me ,retire in 8 months,I've got more stuff wrong with me with all this walking then enough. I can't say whether folk should join or not because its job. But the unfairness in our office is my biggest problem and these new starters we are getting ( mainly kids) are expected to work over work their days off ( as we all are). Keep getting moved and hardly get a Saturday off, just glad iam ready for retirement.

My bro moved to Fev round about 1980. And helped form a barnsley branch based at the Junction pub. He then started taking an interest in Fev. (Bear in mind where we/he come/came from Rugby didn't exist) and all his family like yourself follow both teams. I personally took an interest around 1990 And Have been to the odd game. Now I've retired I'll probably take in more.

Is there any chance of improvement a overhaul of working conditions because it sounds very management heavy too many chiefs not enough Indians like thing, surely it has to change to keep workers happier.

I used to go on coach from Junction ( all boarded up now). If Rovers don't get up this year they never will lol. Probably know your family with being a postie.

I remember a few lads that travelled from the junction. Mally, Tich. Pete Armstrong. Wally. Cliff Riley. Still see a few of em when I pop over. Bro (St Thomas rd) and his kids and grandkids still all live in Fev.
