Not sure that today's event added that much to what was said on Friday. I do get the vibe that the people on the Board are good people who have the club's interests at heart. It will be interesting to hear from Julie Quay at some point. However, the way in which the finances are being described does not give the impression that we will be capable of building a squad that will be competitive in League One. And it must be concerning that we have still to appoint a new head coach.
I've watched through the 19 minutes which are available so far (maybe the rest is lost and won't be shown) and the real pity is the front end of framing the interviews isn't there. That sets the context. Starting watching part way through never does justice, so it's hard to know what occurred before those 19 minutes. This is a marquee event. After 4.5 years of Conway and Lee, it's the opportunity to set out a new direction, a better direction, accept problems and surefootedly rebuild bridges with the fanbase knowing for some it won't be enough and more time will be required. But it's important to get off to a good start, if nothing else, to make it feel different to what went before. Job 1, the production. It was a shambles. Again, I couldn't hear all that was said. Some people I could hear clearly, but one of the latter journos and El Ahmad, it was just mumbles. Some could be made out, others not so much. And that was with my sound on full. But the most important thing is having the thing work properly from the start. Tech problems happen. I accept that. But when they happen repeatedly, it raises other questions. We're either not investing in good enough equipment, the equipment isn't being tested and checked properly, the skills of those using it are insufficient, or there is a lack of care in how we operate. One other thing. It would have been nice to have had more heads up about this so people could have engineered the time for such an important reset. I didn't realise it was going to be streamed, so when it came up, I was pleased I had a window to watch it. Sadly, it's left a very damp squib. Was Quay supposed to be involved, or did that tech not work either? Whatever we do in 2022/23, whoever we sign, whatever we do in the league, everything.... my single ambition is we get back to basics and do them properly and consistently and to a decent level every single time. Somebody needs to grab hold of this thing and direct it and demand an elevation of standards. I'm worried that despite having nicer people involved, that might not happen.
Don’t think much was said that wasn’t said on Friday other than they all looked thoroughly miserable throughout. Jean Cryne understandably got upset when talking about Patrick which begs the question why wasn’t James Cryne there instead , I think it stopped difficult questions about the West Stand ownership and it’s lack of development
They need to stop doing these live streams until until they get them properly sorted out. They do not reflect well on the club at all and that is putting it very kindly. It would be far better to rely on the traditional tried and tested ways ie the local media, newsbot etc to communicate with the fans than do any more live streams. They are doing more harm than good
The main part I took is when Jean said there are good people at Oakwell and she wants the fans "to trust us". You'll do for me Mrs C.
I watched it on you tube via the you tube app. I thought Jean Cryne looked a bit nervous with the situation and got emotional talking about Patrick, felt sorry for her, obviously only stepped into the limelight because of the situation with the previous board make up. I am happy that she has and she needs to be cut some slack, I hope she will have a contribution to make in the background. Neerav also seems enthused by the task in hand but knows it's going to be a tough ask to get it right. We can only hope that they take the right decisions for the future of the club and on the surface that seems to be their mindset. It looks more positive than it did at the end of the season. Personally I am not looking for miracles this season, just stability going foreward and then and only then, look to mounting a challenge for promotion, if that happens this season then great, but if not lets be patient. I think there may be more problems than meets the eye in the background due to the way Conway and co ran the club. I am cautiously optimistic with what I saw at the Fans forum and this press conference. Onwards and upwards.
Was it actually stated that Paul Cook wasn't now in the running? If so that must have been said before we got the 19 minute stream.
I honestly don't know, mate. I simply put the link up for Leon Wobschall's Twitter page, as he was updating everyone at a time when the YouTube link wasn't working. Sorry.
They've had 2 days and a bit to think of those questions: boom, first time to speak to the New CEO, first chance to speak to Jean Cryne. Then they came out with that.
Considering khaled came from yeh city group I find it hard to imagine listening to a press conference from them with what sounds like ultimately a speak and spell microphone hanging from the back corner of the room with a red cloth hanging in front of the window with barnsley fc on it. We hate being labels tinpot yet we are in so many ways….very tinpot
