I don't think it would sit right with a lot of supporters if we had the chance to get Warnock and gave the job to someone else. If Warnock has applied he's the man for the job. If he hasn't then fair enough.

I'd personally say the same about McCarthy should it come out he'd applied. Although not many would like him.

Just for clarity how many of his short list have actually applied for the job and how many are targets once we decide who the best fit is?
Obviously if its the latter then we could still be manager/coachless for the foreseeable future.
Why is it we always take so long at a key time in the season to actually appoint someone? It's not as if we aren't experienced in searching for new coaches!

It was said that the appointment was expected by the 13th June at the latest. I got the feeling from the press conference that they've largely spoken with most if not all of the candidates.

Stendel please. I like Warnock but he's 73. Not a long term prospect is he? Duff, not convinced. Jimmy Floyd maybe.

Warnock for me.. would only be short term, a season or two with his age. But aren't they all at Oakwell..
Think we need to someone like him to drag the club back together and point it in the right direction

Neil/ Colin every time for me. he then can teach Martin the ropes, so he's ready to take over when the big man finally retires

To me it sounds like they’re waiting to speak with one more, & there’s one game left that being the National league play off final, so Paul Hurst would be logical choice

On that basis why not Neil Ardley?

Definitely Michael Duff from Cheltenham Town for me. Has done wonders in getting Cheltenham promoted into and then stabilised in League One with limited financial resources; good judge of a player; able to construct a side to a preferred 352 formation; good links with clubs higher up the leagues, who have trusted him with some very promising youngsters on loan; good previous coaching with Burnley's u23s; full international in his playing days; knows league one well after two seasons there; might bring Will Boyle with him if Helik departs. I just don't see the others as being in quite the same class. Duff is the stand-out one for me and will fit the sort of experience and salary we are looking for. I would settle for JFH, but think him second to Duff. Warnock would be a retrograde step for me and not a mid-term development option if we want to keep bringing on good young players. Paul Cook needs a rest before coming back to EFL football. Hope it's announced soon. I don't know of any others linked and Sky Bet seems to have given up on us, probably because of the last two appointments. Oh! And Duff will already know Devaney from Cheltenham playing days, I think.

I love the Barnsley old boys but agree with PIN on Warnock too old, short term solution and then we're back to another summer Manager search in 2023 and the player turnover that comes with that.
McCarthy too, see comments from Cardiff players when he left there, he's done.

Val had his faults, but he got the players raising their game for him.
Everybody seemed to know their role and the season just clicked amazingly well. And Im a firm believer in if you've done summat once, you can do it again.
What if a coach/manager like Colin Warnock got them playing the same way again, which he is capable of doing of course, and so are the players when they can be bothered!.
