We haven’t any money to spend on players that was made pretty clear at the board meeting so I’m sure any incoming manager would know this.
Eric Ramsay is certainly an interesting name from left field. I think my choice would still be Duff. Followed by Warnock.
Lose lose though innit. If they keep it all behind closed doors, Khaled gets hammered for not being ‘transparent’. Personally don’t think it will happen, but I’m very happy that he’s been approached. It’s what a lot of people were asking for.
Aye. That’s why I think it won’t happen though. I don’t think we do have the kind of budget it would take to get him in.
https://www.barnsleychronicle.com/article/23036/reds-reach-out-to-warnock-over-head-coach-position I think it's a big positive we are going to speak again to Warnock as it shows he's some interest unlike Mick. Our season ticket sales would get a very good boost and I don't think wages would be much of a problem because I think at his stage of life he'd be more willing to come back out of love for his career to go full circle and would be motivated by having the chance to add another promotion to his CV. Admitting we've spoken to him may cause a problem though because if we don't give him the job now people will not be happy we've knocked him back a third time within 12 months.
I'd like to see either of the new names. I'm just surprised he's allowed a Journo to say them. Okay say these are the names but off record. I know he can be quite open. I spoke to him back end of the season and basically told him that Poyas made him look a fecking mug. He told me he wasn't first choice at all and listened to a load of names to me they approached in October time. Alex Neil was one of them at the time. Jesse Marsch another.
Strengthen, get back up quick, THEN start planning long term. Anyway even if he did a couple of seasons ( which I doubt, one last promotion would probably do him) he would easily stabilise us in the Championship
I personally don’t get why people wouldn’t want to take Warnock on and see it as short sighted. Surely the sole aim is to get out of this league at the earliest opportunity of for nothing else but financially, we all know how hard it can be to escape it just look at Sunderland and Wednesday. I’d much rather take the chance with Warnock and get out knowing that he probably hasn’t got a long stint on him than go down a unproven route yet again and IF we got the promotion the guy leaves us anyway for bigger and better. Either way it’s most likely going to be short term it’s just how it is in in recent times let’s get out this league asap
Agreed one hundred per cent, Archey, and for exactly the reasons you state. Warnock for one year is not a developmental decision. It might well work in getting us out of League One, although his recent experience is Championship only. Duff for me and give him a minimum of four years to reconstruct and develop us to a team which is stabilised in the Championship again. Duff is the stand-out candidate for me. Good coach. Successful League One experience. Knows how to build a team. Good man-manager. Top choice without a doubt for me. COYR
Get Warnock in! Extend the early bird & that would shift another 1k season tickets at least! Give him a years contract with an option to take up a director of football role for the 23/24 season.
Let’s be realistic though how often. Have we been successful and the coach has stayed with us? We are a stepping stone wether we like it or not. A 4 year contract looks good but means very little as if we got promotion and started well next season they would be gone by Christmas I’d rather we focused on just getting out of this league first before implementing long term visions
Would it make sense to name Warnock and not extend the early bird deal… loads more would buy a ticket at full price than extending the early bird another 2 weeks and naming JFH…
Is this not what most people are calling for though? One minute the club is being berated for not releasing anything then in the next breath being pulled up for naming people. Let’s be honest they can’t win
Interesting that we are talking to Ramsey, but I think that he would find himself out of his depth if being given the role as first team coach on his own. Now, if you were to put him with the experience of someone like Neil Warnock as Director of Football, that might just be of interest. On the other hand, neither Ramsey, nor Warnock have experience of League One, so Duff is still well ahead as my number one target.
